The Luddites were a social movement of British artisans in the 19th century who organized in opposition to technological advances in the textile industry.

Its name is based on the historical legacy of the British Luddites, who were active between 1811 and 1816.

One of the most significant civil protests to start here was the protest by Luddites ( a social movement of British textile artisans ) in the early nineteenth century, who protested growth in industrial machinery which was seen to be taking jobs.

Ned Ludd or Ned Lud, possibly born Ned Ludlam or Edward Ludlam, is the person from whom the Luddites took their name.
