* Several pre-1950 talkies were sold to other studios for remakes, among them Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ( 1931 ) and Make Me a Star ( 1932 ) to MGM ; The Letter ( 1929 ), A Farewell to Arms ( 1932 ) and One Sunday Afternoon ( 1933 ) to Warner Brothers ; and " The Dance of Life ( 1929 ), The Story of Temple Drake ( 1933 ) and " Swing High, Swing Low ( 1937 ) to 20th Century Fox.

That same year, MGM released Kelly's last film, the musical comedy High Society ( based on the studio's 1940 comedy Philadelphia Story ).

They were aware that voters had probably mistaken their film with the 1956 MGM musical of the same name starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra which was based on The Philadelphia Story.

This group generally consists of those who were playing during the " Golden Age " in the 1950s, including Wade Mainer and his Mountaineers, Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, the Stanley Brothers, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs with the Foggy Mountain Boys, Hylo Brown and The Timberliners, Ervin T. Rouse, who wrote the standard " Orange Blossom Special ", Reno and Smiley, the Sauceman Brothers, Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Jim & Jesse, Jimmy Martin and the Osborne Brothers, Red Allen ( who also recorded with the Osborne Brothers for MGM in the mid-fifties ), Mac Wiseman, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers, Carl Story and his Rambling Mountaineers, Buzz Busby, The Lilly Brothers, Bill Clifton and Jim Eanes.

Together, from 1933 to 1939, they made nine musical films at RKO: Flying Down to Rio ( 1933 ), The Gay Divorcee ( 1934 ), Roberta ( 1935 ), Top Hat ( 1935 ), Follow the Fleet ( 1936 ), Swing Time ( 1936 ), Shall We Dance ( 1937 ), Carefree ( 1938 ), and The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle ( 1939 ) ( The Barkleys of Broadway ( 1949 ) was produced later at MGM ).

In the summer of 1949, MGM reunited Lew Ayres and Lionel Barrymore to record the radio series, The Story of Dr. Kildare, scripted by Les Crutchfield, Jean Holloway and others.

It was one of the films that led to Katharine Hepburn's being labeled " box office poison " in the late 1930s, leading to her move to MGM and her great comeback in The Philadelphia Story.

In 1940, she asked Monogram to give her a different part and was loaned to MGM for a small role in The Philadelphia Story, which starred Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart.

Anxious to work with Vincente Minnelli, Granger willingly accepted a role opposite Leslie Caron and Ethel Barrymore in Mademoiselle, one of three segments in the 1953 MGM film The Story of Three Loves.

However, it is Sony, which now owns Columbia Records ( and now a stake in MGM as well ), that has released the West Side Story original cast album and film soundtrack on CD.

Years later, when they met again at MGM, Turner did not remember her.

As a child actor under contract to MGM he first came to the public's attention in films such as Anchors Aweigh and The Green Years ; as a young adult he played a lead role in the 1957 Broadway and 1959 screen adaptations of Meyer Levin's Compulsion, a novel based on the true-life story of Leopold and Loeb.

Years later, when Toscanini visited the MGM lot in California, Eddy greeted him by singing a few bars of Maria Egiziaca.
