On June 29, 2004, Howard and Magic teammates Tracy McGrady, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines were part of a seven-player trade that sent starting guards Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley plus Kelvin Cato to the Magic.

In a 7-player deal which sent McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue, and another player to the Houston Rockets, the Magic received erratic point guard Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, and Kelvin Cato.
