In 1873, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad arrived, making Rockville easily accessible from Washington, D. C. ( See Metropolitan Branch.

* June 17 – The Garfield Park branch of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad in Chicago begins service between Marshfield Avenue junction and Cicero ( 48th ) Avenue.

* August 28 – The Douglas Park branch of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad in Chicago began service between Marshfield Avenue junction and 18th Street.

Once Penn Central was dissolved in 1976, Conrail took responsibility for commuter service, until the Metropolitan Transportation Authority officially established Metro-North Railroad in 1983, making the station and the line part of the new railroad.
