Motown Records had its first million-selling single in 1960 with The Miracles ' " Shop Around ", and in 1961, Stax Records had its first hit with Carla Thomas ' " Gee Whiz!

The tune knocked the Shirelles ' " Will You Love Me Tomorrow " out of the # 1 position, and it kept the Miracles ' " Shop Around " from becoming the group's first # 1 hit, holding their recording at # 2.

It can be heard in the music of The Miracles, particularly in their early hits such as " Got A Job " ( an answer song to " Get a Job "), " Bad Girl ", " Who's Loving You ", "( You Can ) Depend on Me ", and " Ooo Baby Baby ". Also, in the early days of The Famous Flames, led by James Brown, the group recorded several Doo-Wop hits, including " Please, Please, Please ", " Try Me ", " Bewildered ", " Oh Baby Don't You Weep " and their hit cover of The " 5 " Royales ' " Think ".

Between 1960 and 1970, Robinson would produce 26 top forty hits with the Miracles as lead singer, chief songwriter and producer, including several top ten hits such as " You've Really Got a Hold on Me ", " Mickey's Monkey ", " I Second That Emotion ", " Baby Baby Don't Cry " and the group's only number-one hit during their Robinson years, " Tears of a Clown ", while other notable hits such as " Ooo Baby Baby ", " Going to a Go-Go ", " The Tracks of My Tears ", "( Come Round Here ) I'm The One You Need ", " The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage " and " More Love " peaked at the top twenty.

The album included the Miracles tribute song, " Sweet Harmony " and the hit ballad " Baby Come Close ".

) The album originally had a shortened single version of the hit Miracles ; early pressings of the CD repeated this, but later editions had the full-length version from the album Red Octopus.

He joined The Beat to record their first single, " Tears of a Clown ," a cover version of the Motown hit by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

After recording the top ten hits, " You've Really Got a Hold on Me " and " Mickey's Monkey " in 1962 and 1963, the Miracles hit the mainstream with their 1965 album, Going to a Go-Go, which spawned four top 20 hit singles including the signature songs " The Tracks of My Tears " and " Ooo Baby Baby ".

Robinson's plans however were thwarted after the Miracles ' 1967 song, " Tears of a Clown ", was released in 1970, and became a number-one hit.

Following his exit from The Miracles, Smokey Robinson enjoyed a successful solo career ; in 1979, he and Tarplin co-wrote his signature hit, " Cruisin '".

Later that year, her cover version of the Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song " More Love " became her first solo Top 10 hit ( No. 10 Pop, No. 6 AC ).

This cover of the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles hit from 1962 also went to # 9 on the R & B charts and # 29 on the Adult Contemporary.

She went on to feature in minor roles on the television series CSI: Miami, The Lyon's Den, Miracles, Like Family, Cold Case and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and the films Twelve Mile Road and Creature Unknown, before appearing in 2011's semi hit Zookeeper with Kevin James.

Around 1964, Smokey Robinson became Motown's vice president, while the other members of the Miracles also began to work staff jobs with the company.

Around this same time, most of the original Miracles including Smokey Robinson and Claudette Robinson as well as Pete Moore and Rogers reunited to perform a medley of their songs on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever.

He had some success as a solo artist, notably in 1972 with " Say You Don't Mind " ( peaked at number 15 in the UK chart and written by future Wings member Denny Laine ) and " I Don't Believe In Miracles " ( peaked at number 31 in the UK chart and written by Argent member Russ Ballard ), both with string arrangements by Christopher Gunning.

Pushed by the publicity she released her first album Intoxicated, which peaked at # 10 on the German album charts and spawned the hit singles " I Don't Think So " and " I Believe In Miracles ".

Amazed at what Bob Geldof had achieved with Live Aid, Holder penned the lyrics to " Do You Believe in Miracles " which was also released in November.
