In the book The Patchwork Girl of Oz, it is revealed that there are two yellow brick roads from Munchkin Country to the Emerald City: according to the Shaggy Man, Dorothy took the harder one in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

This shames and inspires him to journey to the Munchkin Country and find her.

After escaping that ordeal, Woot, the Tin Woodman as a tin owl, the Scarecrow as a straw-stuffed bear, and Polychrome as a canary turn south into the Munchkin Country and, with Polychrome's magic, reverse a spell cast on Tommy Kwikstep, a messenger boy who thoughtlessly wished himself twenty legs.

They leave the Swynnes and arrive at the foot of Mount Munch on the eastern border of the Munchkin Country.

Unfortunately for the principle of consistency, this initial map of Oz was drawn backwards, with the Munchkin Country in the left and the Winkie Country in the right, with the compass rose reversed to keep the Munchkin Country in the east and the Winkie Country in the west.

Like the Munchkin Country, the outer regions of the Quadling Country are rich, pleasant and beautiful, inhabited by kind and friendly people, while the areas closer to the Emerald City ( i. e. most of the regions between the mountains of the Hammer-Heads and the Forest of the Fighting Trees ) are forbidding and dangerous ( see " The Wonderful Wizard of Oz " section below ).

Located in the center of the Land of Oz, the Emerald City is the end of the famous yellow brick road, which starts in Munchkin Country.

The Munchkins are the natives of the fictional Munchkin Country in the Oz books by L. Frank Baum.

Oz is roughly rectangular in shape, and divided along the diagonals into four countries: Munchkin Country ( but commonly referred to as ' Munchkinland ' in adaptations ) in the East, Winkie Country ( called " The Vinkus " in Gregory Maguire's Wicked and its sequel Son of a Witch ) in the West ( sometimes West and East are reversed on maps of Oz, see West and East below ), Gillikin Country in the North, and Quadling Country in the South.
