The Naked Spur is a 1953 American western film directed by Anthony Mann and starring James Stewart, Janet Leigh, and Robert Ryan.

Leonard Maltin has lauded The Naked Spur as " one of the best westerns ever made.

In 1997, The Naked Spur was added to the United States National Film Registry, being deemed " culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Although the film generally receives credit for teaming James Stewart with Anthony Mann, Robert Ryan also teamed with Mann in The Naked Spur, Men in War, and God's Little Acre.

In 1953 he was cast as a misfit ex-cavalryman in the classic western The Naked Spur directed by Anthony Mann.

Though she later appeared in films Naked in New York ( 1993 ) and Getting In ( 1994 ), her first substantial speaking part in a film was in Quiz Show, directed by Robert Redford.

Before he was forced abroad for political reasons, director Jules Dassin made two classic noirs that also straddled the major / independent line: Brute Force ( 1947 ) and the influential documentary-style The Naked City were developed by producer Mark Hellinger, who had an " inside / outside " contract with Universal similar to Wanger's.
