Inscribed into the terrace ( though many are now eroded away ) are the inundation levels for several kings of the Third Intermediate Period, collectively known as the Nile Level Texts.

He first became king at Thebes in Year 8 of Shoshenq III and his highest dated Year is his 23rd Year according to Nile Level Text No. 29.

Several Nile Quay Texts at Thebes mention two sons of Osorkon I namely the High Priests of Amun Iuwelot and Smendes III in Years 5, 8 and 14 of an anonymous king who can only be Takelot I since Takelot I was their brother.

' Shoshenq VI's Year 4 and Year 6 are attested in an inscription at the Temple of Monthu at Karnak and in Nile Quay Text No. 25 respectively.

Recently, it has been demonstrated that Nile Quay Text No. 14 ( dated to Year 29 of an Usimare Setepenamun ) belongs to Osorkon II on palaeographical grounds.

This situation was ultimately later resolved by Osorkon II who is clearly attested as Pharaoh at Thebes by his 12th Regnal Year, according to Nile Quay Text No. 8 and Text No. 9.

Harsiese B is also attested in office in the sixth regnal year of Shoshenq III in Nile Quay Text No. 6 and lived into the 18th and 19th regnal years of Pedubast I as Nile Quay Text No. 27 shows.

He died before Year 23 of Pedubast I when this King's new High Priest is revealed to be a Takelot ( see Nile Quay Text No. 29 )

Shoshenq VI's Year 4 and Year 6 are attested in an inscription carved on the roof of the Temple of Monthu at Karnak by a certain Djedioh and in Nile Quay Text No. 25 respectively.

In this decisive Year, Osorkon B explicitly states in Nile Quay Text No. 7 that he and his brother, General Bakenptah of Herakleopolis, conquered Thebes and " overthrew everyone who had fought against them.

Examples from the nineteenth century are the transposition of " Horatio Nelson " into " Honor est a Nilo " ( Latin = Honor is from the Nile ); and of " Florence Nightingale " into " Flit on, cheering angel ".

As for specific places, the main character is Kublai Khan the Tartar king from China, the river is Alpheus in Greece and is similar to the Nile, and the Abyssinian woman sings of Mount Amara, and the caves are like those in Kashmir.

Since there are no inflows that link the lake to other large waterways and the main outflow, the Blue Nile, is obstructed by the Blue Nile Falls, the lake supports a highly distinctive fish fauna, which generally is related to species from the Nile Basin.

Other noteworthy endemics are Afronemacheilus abyssinicus, which is the only African hillstream loach, and the tana subspecies of the Nile tilapia.

Also, that Amenhotep IV's tomb inscribed five names he gave himself and one of them, Golden Horus, proves that he was crowned on the bank of the Nile, his father's favorite domain.

Smendes ' nominal authority over Upper Egypt is attested by a single inscribed stela found in a quarry at Ed-Dibabiya, opposite Gebelein on the right bank of the Nile as well as a separate graffito inscription on an enclosure Wall of the Temple of Monthu at Karnak dating from the reign of Tuthmose III.
