Residents of these neighborhoods commonly refer to this area as " Northside " Many suburban Houstonians confuse the term to be associatted with the suburbs of North Houston such as Spring, FM 1960 or The Woodlands.

The Northside consists primarily of Hispanic and African Americans with the exception of The Houston Heights neighborhood which has a large Caucasian presence.

After five years in development, Butler University opened on November 1, 1855, as North Western Christian University at 13th street and College Avenue on Indianapolis ' near north-side at the eastern edge of the present Old Northside Historic District on land provided by attorney and university founder Ovid Butler.

Major portions of the neighborhoods of Allegheny West, Manchester, Central Northside, California-Kirkbride ( Old Allegheny Rows ), and East Allegheny are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Mexican War Streets in Central Northside.

Currently, Binghamton encompasses seven neighborhoods ; Center City, the Westside, the Southside, the Eastside, the Northside, the First Ward and Ely Park.
