* 1902 – The Commercial Pacific Cable Company lays the first Pacific telegraph cable, from Ocean Beach, San Francisco to Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pacific Beach is a neighborhood of San Diego, bounded by La Jolla to the north, Mission Beach and Mission Bay to the south, Interstate 5 to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The streets in Pacific Beach were renamed several times before receiving their current designations in 1900.

* Pacific Beach Drive

Pacific Beach was developed during the boom years of 1886-1888 by D. C. Reed, A. G. Gassen, Charles W. Pauley, R. A. Thomas, and O. S. Hubbell.

A railway also connected Pacific Beach with downtown San Diego, and was later extended to La Jolla.

In 1902, lots sold for between $ 350 – 700 for ocean-front property and by 1950, the population of Pacific Beach reached 30, 000 and the average home sold for $ 12, 000.

The United States Navy operated an anti-aircraft training center at Pacific Beach during World War II.

In 1964 Sea World opened, which is located only a few miles from Pacific Beach.

Today, Pacific Beach is home to a younger crowd, including college students, single professionals, and families.

Pacific Beach public schools are part of the San Diego Unified School District.

They include Mission Bay Senior High School, Pacific Beach Middle School, and several elementary schools.

Pacific Beach also serves as a central location for many of San Diego's universities, including University of California, San Diego, University of San Diego, San Diego State University, Point Loma Nazarene University, as well as others.

Surfing in Pacific Beach

In addition to bordering the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay Park, Pacific Beach includes Kate Sessions Park and the Pacific Beach Recreation Center.

Rose Creek, which flows through Pacific Beach before emptying into Mission Bay, provides open space and a rich wetland area.

Pacific Beach's namesake stretches for miles from the Mission Bay jetty to the cliffs of La Jolla.

In 1894, roof tiles were salvaged from the property and installed on the Southern Pacific Railroad depot located in Burlingame, California, one of the first permanent structures constructed in the Mission Revival Style.

In 1999, the league disbanded the Western Warriors, while Mission Viejo, Bend, Yuma and Pacific also folded.

Next established, in 1782, was Mission San Buenaventura on the Pacific Coast near the mouth of the Santa Clara River.

The racial makeup of Mission Hills was 2, 689 ( 75. 2 %) White, 91 ( 2. 5 %) African American, 74 ( 2. 1 %) Native American, 125 ( 3. 5 %) Asian, 9 ( 0. 3 %) Pacific Islander, 386 ( 10. 8 %) from other races, and 202 ( 5. 6 %) from two or more races.

William Gothard Sr. held high positions at organizations that included the Gideons, Child Evangelism Fellowship and Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago.

At one street corner they stopped to listen to a gospel preaching team from the Pacific Garden Mission.

Sunday donated Chicago's offering of $ 58, 000 to Pacific Garden Mission and the $ 120, 500 New York offering to war charities.

Hudson pointed the Discovery down the east coast of the newly discovered sea ( now called Hudson Bay ), confident he was on his way to the warm waters of the Pacific.

Commercial whaling by Europeans of the species in the North Pacific began in the winter of 1845-46, when two United States ships, the Hibernia and the United States, under Captains Smith and Stevens, caught 32 in Magdalena Bay.

Another Scot, Archibald Menzies, picked up citrus plants and dropped them off at Kealakekua Bay in Hawaii on the Vancouver Expedition, to help the Navy re-supply in the Pacific.

There is still a large military presence on the peninsula ; the home base of Russia's Pacific submarine fleet is across Avacha Bay from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at the Rybachy base.

George Forster, who had been on Cook ’ s second voyage to the Pacific and had been with him when he landed on Norfolk Island, was at the time professor of natural history at the University of Vilna ( or Vilnius ) in Polish Lithuania: Forster discussed the proposed Botany Bay colony in an article written in November 1786, “ Neuholland, und die brittische Colonie in Botany Bay ”.
