Originally settled by the Nauset tribe, Eastham was the site where in 1621 a hunting expedition comprised from the crew of the sailing vessel Mayflower, which had stopped in Provincetown harbor on Cape Cod Bay after a rough crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, which led to the first encounter of the Pilgrims and the local Nauset Indians at First Encounter Beach.

The tree removal eventually led to the formation of a base wide landscaping volunteer group whom were affectionatley dubbed the " Whidbey Pilgrims ".

Pilgrims participated in a variety of youth festivities including visits to St Mary's Cathedral, daily Catechesis and Mass led by Bishops from all around the world, concerts, visits to the tomb of Blessed Mary MacKillop, the Vocations Expo at Darling Harbour, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and prayed before the Blessed Sacrament during Adoration.

After keeping the Pilgrims in the division in his first full campaign, a poor run of results at the start of the 2005 – 06 season led to his dismissal on 6 September 2005.

The origin of the nickname appears to be a poem entitled “ The Pilgrims At Home ” written by Edwin Fitzwilliam that was sung at the 1907 home opener (“ Rory O ’ More ” melody ).

This was followed by The Pilgrims of the Rhine ( 1834 ), The Last Days of Pompeii ( 1834 ), Rienzi, Last of the Roman Tribunes ( 1835 ), and Harold, the Last of the Saxons ( 1848 ).

This concept of America's unique Bible-driven historical and cultural identity was developed by historians as they studied the first centuries of America's history, from the Pilgrims through Abraham Lincoln.

It is claimed that despite the centuries of linguistic changes there is still a resemblance between the English East Anglia accents which would have been used by early English settlers in New England ( including the Pilgrims ), and modern Northeastern United States accents.

He is considered a prophet by his followers, the Pilgrims of Arès.

* The voyage and struggles of the Pilgrims have also been the subject of some pieces of literature including Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford, who himself was an important figure of the 1620s, and Felicia Hemans ' classic poem, " The Landing of the Pilgrim Fathers.

The idea of constructing such a canal was first considered by Miles Standish of the Plymouth Colony in 1623, and Pilgrims scouted the low-lying stretch of land between the Manomet and the Scusset rivers for potential routes.

The core of the group that would come to be known as the Pilgrims were brought together by a common belief in the ideas promoted by Richard Clyfton, a Brownist parson at All Saints ' Parish Church in Babworth, near East Retford, Nottinghamshire, between 1586 and 1605.

The tradition of making quilts in this fashion was taken to America by the Pilgrims.

Its situation overlooks the pass through the hills taken by the Pilgrims ' Way, and also, presumably, once overlooked the ancient ford across the Wey, thus giving a key point of military control of this important East-West route way across the country ; just as Windsor Castle and the Tower of London once guarded the Thames.

Myles Standish ( c. 1584 – October 3, 1656 ; sometimes spelled Miles Standish ) was an English military officer hired by the Pilgrims as military advisor for Plymouth Colony.

Standish first appears in the written record in 1620 when, living in Leiden, Holland, he was hired by the Pilgrims to act as their advisor on military matters.

* The Road to Canterbury: A Game of Pilgrims, Pardoners, and the Seven Deadly Sins -- a board game in which players play as the Pardoner from The Canterbury Tales.

The 33-year-old Plymothian announced his decision to leave Plymouth Argyle, saying " the time is right for me to move on ", with effect from the Pilgrims ' final Championship game of the season on 30 April 2006.

* 18 May 2007 – The Football League confirms that Boston United were deducted 10 points for entering a Company Voluntary Arrangement in the final seconds of their League Two defeat at Wrexham, a game which saw The Pilgrims relegated.

A much more favourable campaign the following season saw The Pilgrims finish 3rd in the league where they won the play-offs, beating Bradford Park Avenue in the final thanks to an Anthony Church extra time winner to earn promotion back to the Blue Square North.

The teams included the Winnipeg Pilgrims, Elmwood, Grand Trunk Pacific, Winnipeg Tigers, Young Men's Lutheran Club, Winnipeg Argonauts, Selkirk Fishermen, Weston, and Winnipeg Monarchs.

Rivalry between the two clubs intensified in 2002 when Boston were promoted to the Football League, however " The Pilgrims " would go on to suffer a series of relegations since dropping out of League Two in 2008.

The etching of Stothard's " Canterbury Pilgrims " was one of his latest works, and on his death the plate was taken up by his brother Niccolo, and finally completed by James Heath.

His popularity attracted large, interested audiences, as Pilgrims in the Wild at one point was selling 5, 000 copies a month.

While he had at one time been a fur trapper, he came to believe that “ the trap, the rifle, and poison ” would some day result in “ the Dwellers in the forest to come to and end too .” He expresses in Pilgrims of the Wild how our rush to exploit natural resources for commercial value overlooks “ the capabilities and possibilities of the wild creatures involved in it .” It was this “ commodification of all living things that was responsible for the destruction from the beaver .” While he was against the commodification of wild animals, his theory was not for the preservation of all living things, but for the conservation of them.

On May 8, 1822 Edward Everett married Charlotte Gray Brooks, a descendant of John Howland, ( c. 1599 – 1673 ) who was one of the Pilgrims who travelled from England to North America on the Mayflower, signed the Mayflower Compact, and helped found Plymouth Colony.

Canonicus was chief of the Narragansett tribe when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, and one of the first with whom they had dealings.

He was one of the commissioners appointed to build the state capitol 1874 ; in 1867 appointed clerk of Westchester County, but resigned after a short service ; made immigration commissioner by New York Legislature in 1870, but declined to serve ; member of boundary commission of the state of New York in 1875 ; had also been commissioner of quarantine and president of Court of Claims of New York City and commissioner of taxes and assessments for the city and county of New York ; defeated for Lieutenant Governor of New York on the Liberal Republican-Democratic ticket in 1872 ; candidate for U. S. Senator from New York in 1881, but withdrew after the 41st ballot ; declined nomination as a senator in 1885 ; but elected to the U. S. Senate in 1899, and re-elected in 1905, and served from March 4, 1899, to March 4, 1911 ; stumped the state of New York for John C. Frémont in 1856 and for Abraham Lincoln in 1860 ; delegate-at-large to Republican National conventions 1888-1904 and delegate to all following conventions, including 1928, being elected the day before he died ; made the nomination speeches for Harrison in 1892, Governor Morton in 1896, and Fairbanks in 1904 ; at the convention in 1888 received ninety-nine votes for the presidential nomination, and in 1892 declined an appointment as Secretary of State in Harrison's cabinet ; Adjutant of the 18th Regiment, New York National Guard, which served in the American Civil War, and later Colonel and Judge Advocate of the 5th Division, on the staff of Major General James W. Husted of the New York Guard, trustee of Peekskill Military Academy ; president of New York State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, of the Pilgrims Society from 1918 until his death, of the St. Nicholas Society, and of the Union League for seven years ( member since 1868 and elected honorary life member at the close of his presidency ); an officer of the French Légion d ' honneur ; vice president of New York Chamber of Commerce 1904-08 ( member since 1885 ).

In one of the earliest English settlements in the New World, English Pilgrims from Europe first settled in New England in 1620, in the colony of Plymouth.

Genesis fine art is also produced locally and sold worldwide – one of its sculptures of the " Pilgrims " dominates the dispensary house at Austin Friars St where once there was an Augustinian Friary.

Places of interest in the Barbican include the National Marine Aquarium ( technically in Coxside ) which is one of the larger aquariums in Britain and has one of the deepest tanks in Europe ; the Elizabethan House, an old house built in the early 16th century, now used as a museum ; the Mayflower Steps near where the Pilgrims finally set off in the Mayflower for the New World in 1620, which is described in the nearby visitors ' centre ; and the studio gallery of the late painter and eccentric Robert Lenkiewicz, who lived and worked on the Barbican for many years deriving much of his inspiration and income from the local community.

Pilgrims are usually limited to one night's accommodation and are expected to leave by eight in the morning to continue their pilgrimage.

The village is sited on the Pilgrims ' Way from London to Canterbury, and is one day's walk from Canterbury.

Pilgrims brought sacred Buddhist writings to the temple and pagoda from India, as the temple was one of the main centers in Chang ' an for translating Buddhist texts.

Louis Bourgeois is the one most responsible for the tunes in the Genevan Psalter, the source for the hymns of both the Reformed Church in England and the Pilgrims in America.

The most famous one is the harvest Thanksgiving held by the Pilgrims in 1621.
