Along with the Pine Grove Covered Bridge ( built in 1884 ), it was one of a number of covered bridges built along the border between Lancaster and Chester counties.

The Pine Grove Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that spans the East Branch of the Octoraro Creek on the border between Lancaster County and Chester County in Pennsylvania, United States.

The Reading and Pennsylvania railroads: In the early 19th century southern Schuylkill County was served by the Union Canal out of Pine Grove with connections west, and the Schuylkill Canal southward from Port Carbon.

The Confederate Army constructed a large, four-sided earthwork fortification near Arkansas Post, on a bluff 25 feet above the north side of the river, forty-five miles downriver from Pine Bluff, to protect the Arkansas River and prevent Union Army passage to Little Rock.

Approximately twenty hotels opened, including Indian Point House in Stony Creek, Montowese House in Indian Neck, and Sheldon House in Pine Orchard.

The Northern Pine Crating Co. opened a wooden box factory in the autumn of 1907, operating until the mill burned c. 1950.

Pine City is also home to two golf courses, the Pine City Country Club, a nine-hole public course opened in 1971, and Pokegema Lake Golf Course, a par-3 course located just west of town.

It was not until late in the 20th century that the history would be remembered and in a synchronistic moment an art gallery opened on Main Street Palenville and The Pine Orchard Summer Festival rekindled the creative campfire at this magical little hamlet.

The first freeway section came off the west end of Cohan Boulevard and over the Providence River, ending at the one-way pair of Pine Street and Friendship Street, which opened in November 1958.

The I-95 interchange at this end opened in fall 1964 ; the Pine Street ramp was kept for a while.
