In 1962, Tom Hayden wrote its founding document, the Port Huron Statement, which issued a call for " participatory democracy " based on non-violent civil disobedience.

In 1967 the old statement in Port Huron was abandoned for a new call for action, which would inevitably lead to the destruction of the SDS.

Thomas Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan.

Edison's family moved to Port Huron, Michigan after the railroad bypassed Milan in 1854 and business declined ; his life there was bittersweet.

The Port Authority will cool the new station, as well as the September 11 Memorial and Museum, via a heat exchanger fed by four pipes carrying water from the Hudson River.

The West Baton Rouge Museum, located in Port Allen, maintains historical information on West Baton Rouge Parish.

Examples of these municipal projects including the construction of a softball complex which hosted the 1996 Olympic softball competition, construction of the Chattahoochee RiverWalk along the Chattahoochee River, construction of the National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus, construction of the Coca-Cola Space Science Center, the expansion of the Columbus Museum, and road improvements to include a new downtown bridge crossing the Chattahoochee River to Phenix City.

Port Allen is home to the Mississippi Riverfront Development which provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Mississippi River and Baton Rouge, the West Baton Rouge Museum, the City of Port Allen Railroad Depot, Scott's Cemetery, the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, the Port Allen Lock.

The West Baton Rouge Museum complex includes the museum, the circa 1830 Aillet House, a 1850s slave cabin, and three antebellum worker's cabins from the plantation of Henry Watkins Allen, the last Confederate Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor whom Port Allen was named.

The depot, which is now part of the Port Huron Museum, is where 12-year-old Thomas Edison departed daily on the Port Huron – Detroit run.

The following year the former library opened as the Port Huron Museum of Arts and History.

The Port O ' Plymouth History Museum, located in the circa 1923 former Atlantic Coast Line Railroad station in downtown Plymouth, has an excellent nationally-recognized collection of Civil War artifacts, including one of the most complete belt buckle and button collections in the U. S., and a model of the ironclad ram " CSS Albemarle ".

In 1901 Ballin built the Emigration Halls ( now the Museum " BallinStadt ") on the Hamburg island of Veddel to accommodate the many thousands of people from all over Europe who arrived at the Port of Hamburg every week to emigrate to North and South America on his company's ships.

The Port Elizabeth branch of the South African Air Force Museum is still housed in the original 42-Air School Air Gunnery Training Centre used during the Joint Air Training Scheme.
