Binttii's youngest brother Jonathan Figgis is the boy who appears on the cover of the second Virgin Prunes single ' In The Greylight '.

Both their first album, The Electric Prunes: I Had Too Much to Dream ( Last Night ) ( 1967 ) and consisting mainly of Tucker / Mantz material, and the followup Underground ( 1967 ) which featured mainly original Prunes material, charted in the lower reaches of the Billboard charts.

Through the inclusion of their classic " I Had Too Much to Dream ( Last Night )" on the seminal Nuggets compilation of 1960s psychedelic gems the Electric Prunes continued to reach new fans in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

In November 1982, the Virgin Prunes released their debut album ... If I Die, I Die ( produced by Colin Newman of Wire ) and Heresie, a French boxset.

After much talk, years of anticipation from fans, and with much input from the band, The Virgin Prunes ' discography was remastered and reissued on Mute Records, which included ... If I Die, I Die, The Moon Looked Down and Laughed, Over the Rainbow, Heresie and an album of selections from the A New Form of Beauty series.

# I Took Up The Prunes

* I Took Up the Prunes refers to Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek's recording I Took Up the Runes, which is heavily influenced by traditional Norwegian folk music.

Around this time Axelrod also began working with a regular group of leading session musicians, notably Howard Roberts ( guitar ), Carol Kaye ( bass ) and Earl Palmer ( drums ), first using them on records by David McCallum and then used to fill out two records that were released by the Electric Prunes, Mass In F Minor and Release Of An Oath.

Their sound was influenced by 1960s garage acts ranging from the Electric Prunes, The Standells, The Chocolate Watch Band to The Easybeats.

A tour had been planned to follow the album release, but it was cancelled after one disastrous show at which it was obvious that the Prunes could not play the music, some of which they had seen for the first time only a few days before the concert.

The album contains an instrumental version of the track The Duke of Prunes originally from the 1967 album Absolutely Free.

He then toured with the band, composed of ex-Catherine member and " Superchrist " producer Kerry Brown, the late Electric Prunes bassist Mark Tulin, Strawberry Alarm Clock keyboardist Mark Weitz, frequent Corgan collaborator Linda Strawberry, flautist Kevin Dippold, " Superchrist " violinist Ysanne Spevack, new Pumpkins drummer Mike Byrne, and Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, playing covers and new Pumpkins material at several clubs in California.

The Electric Prunes disbanded during the recording sessions and Axelrod's team completed the albums.
