Thus, the innermost purpose of the creation of all rational beings is their cognition of the existence of Allah and, hence, their conscious willingness to conform their own existence to whatever they may perceive of His will and plan: and it is this twofold concept of cognition and willingness that gives the deepest meaning to what the Quran describes as " worship ".

In contrast to the Jewish tradition, which uses a term which can be translated as a " box " or " chest " to describe the Ark, surah 29: 14 of the Quran refers to it as a safina, an ordinary ship, and surah 54: 13 describes the ark as " a thing of boards and nails ".

The Quran speaks favorably of the Injīl, which it describes as a scripture that fills the hearts of its followers with meekness and piety.

Moses is further revered in Islamic literature, which expands upon the incidents of his life and describes the miracles given to Moses as attributed in the Quran and hadis, such as him being honoured by God's speech.
