John-F .- Kennedy-Platz ( John F. Kennedy Square ), formerly Rudolph-Wilde-Platz, in Berlin-Schöneberg is the square in front of the former city hall of West Berlin ( Rathaus Schöneberg ).

Rathaus Schöneberg

Rathaus Schöneberg is the city hall for the borough of Tempelhof-Schöneberg in Berlin.

As a " temporary " measure the barely repaired Rathaus Schöneberg on Rudolph-Wilde-Platz became the city hall for West Berlin.

After the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, the steps of Rathaus Schöneberg were the location where U. S. President John F. Kennedy held his famous speech on 26 June 1963, proclaiming " Ich bin ein Berliner ".

After reunification, Rathaus Schöneberg reverted back to its original purpose of being Schöneberg Borough Town Hall.

Upon the 2001 Berlin administrative reform, Rathaus Schöneberg became the town hall for the newly constituted borough of Tempelhof-Schöneberg.

Since 2005 the exhibition called Wir waren Nachbarn-Biografien jüdischer Zeitzeugen ( English title: We were Neighbours once-Biographies of Jews in Schöneberg and Tempelhof under the Nazi Regime ) takes place in the exhibition hall of the Rathaus Schöneberg.

The market square has the town hall ( Rathaus ) to the west, the main Lutheran church ( Evangelische Stadtkirche ) to the east, and the tomb of Margrave Karl Wilhelm in a pyramid in the buildings, resulting in Karlsruhe being one of only three large cities in Germany where buildings are laid out in the Neoclassical style.

One of the few pieces of documentary evidence about Talhoffer's life appears in the records of Zürich ( Switzerland ), documenting that he was teaching near the Rathaus ( city hall ) in 1454, where a fight broke out among his students, resulting in various fines.

He studied at the Juilliard School in New York City ( 1950 – 1952 ), and at Queens College ( 1952 – 1956 ), where he studied composition with Karol Rathaus.

Other, later replicas include the clock tower at King Street Station in Seattle ; North Toronto Station ; Brisbane City Hall, Australia ; the Rathaus ( Town Hall ) in Kiel Germany ; the Daniels & Fisher Tower in Denver ; the Campanile in Port Elizabeth-South Africa ; Sather Tower, nicknamed the Campanile, on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley ; 14 Wall Street ; and the right-hand bell-tower of St. John Gualbert in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Damaged buildings included the medieval churches of St. Foillan, St. Paul and St. Nicholas, and the Rathaus ( city hall ), although Aachen Cathedral was largely unscathed.

Adjacent to this area is the Rotes Rathaus ( City Hall ), with its distinctive red-brick architecture.

After the war the undestroyed Neues Stadthaus, former head office of Berlin's municipal fire insurance Feuersozietät, on Parochialstraße in Mitte, served as intermittent city hall, replacing the ruined Rotes Rathaus ( Red City Hall, also in East Berlin ), the traditional seat of the Berlin government.

There are four civic buildings on the list ; the old Armory which is now the Cantonal Museum, the Rathaus ( town council house ), the State Archives at Bielstrasse 41 and the nearby Central Library at Bielstrasse 39.

In 1721 the town council acquired the palace of Baroness Sponheim ( today's Old Town Hall or Altes Rathaus ) as a replacement for the town hall built in 1440 in the middle of the market place and destroyed by fire.

In 1906 a circular route was begun, connecting Hamburg Hauptbahnhof – Berliner Tor – Barmbek ( earlier spelling: Barmbeck ) – Kellinghusenstraße – Schlump – Landungsbrücken ( earlier designation: Hafentor ) – Rathaus – Hauptbahnhof with branches to the quarters of Eimsbüttel, Ohlsdorf and Rothenburgsort.

Working with Brian Eno while sharing an apartment in Schöneberg with Iggy Pop, he began to focus on minimalist, ambient music for the first of three albums, co-produced with Tony Visconti, that would become known as his Berlin Trilogy.

This road had started out in the Middle Ages as a lane running out from Berlin to the hamlet of Schöneberg, but it had developed into part of a trading route running right across Europe from Paris to St. Petersburg via Aachen, Berlin and Königsberg.

The sandstone building was constructed between 1911 – 1914, when it replaced the old town hall of Schöneberg, at that time an independent city () not yet incorporated into Greater Berlin, which took place in 1920.

Marie Magdalene Dietrich was born on 27 December 1901 in Leberstrasse 65 on the Rote Insel in Schöneberg, now a district of Berlin, Germany.
