The Main begins near Kulmbach in Franconia at the joining of its two headstreams, the Red Main ( Roter Main ) and the White Main ( Weißer Main ).

The Red Main rises in the Franconian Jura mountain range, in length, and runs through Creussen and Bayreuth.
