The edge, however, will usually be too hard, so after quenching the entire blade is usually tempered to around for a short time, to bring the hardness of the edge down to around HRc60 on the Rockwell hardness scale.

The Rockwell scale is a hardness scale based on the indentation hardness of a material.

The Rockwell test determines the hardness by measuring the depth of penetration of an indenter under a large load compared to the penetration made by a preload.

The determination of the Rockwell hardness of a material involves the application of a minor load followed by a major load, and then noting the depth of penetration, vis a vis, hardness value directly from a dial, in which a harder material gives a higher number.

The chief advantage of Rockwell hardness is its ability to display hardness values directly, thus obviating tedious calculations involved in other hardness measurement techniques.

Monel alloy 400 has a specific gravity of 8. 83, an electrical conductivity of approximately 3. 4 % IACS, and ( in the annealed state ) a hardness of 65 Rockwell B.

After Rockwell's breakup in 2001, the laboratory was spun off as a semi-autonomous company called Rockwell Scientific, half owned by Rockwell Collins and half owned by Rockwell Automation.

The shuttle was built by Rockwell International's Space Transportation Systems Division in Downey, California.

Norman Rockwell was born on February 3, 1894, in New York City to Jarvis Waring Rockwell and Anne Mary " Nancy " ( born Hill ) Rockwell.
