The Romanians ( dated: Rumanians or Roumanians ; in or — historically, but now a seldom-used regionalism — rumâni ; dated exonym: Vlachs ) are an ethnic group native to Romania, who speak Romanian ; they are the majority inhabitants of Romania.

In English, Romanians are usually called Romanians, Rumanians, or Roumanians except in some historical texts, where they are called Roumans or Vlachs.

From Bram Stoker's short story, " Dracula's Guest ", an Englishman ( whose name is never mentioned ) is on a visit to Munich before leaving for Transylvania.

It came to an end with the reign of Michael the Brave ( 1593 – 1601 ) who managed, for a short time in 1600, to rule Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania, the three principalities whose territories were to be united some three centuries later to form Romania.

*" Transylvania " is a song by The Coffinshakers, a Swedish horror country / rock band whose lyrics focus almost exclusively on vampires and the undead.

He revisited Poland ( 1576 ) in the train of Stephen Báthory, whose tolerance permitted the propagation of heresies ; and when ( 1579 ) Christopher Báthory introduced the Jesuits into Transylvania, Biandrata found means of conciliating them.

Those people, who settled down in Transylvania and in the Banat, may be identified with the Agathyrsi ( probably an ancient Thracian tribe whose presence on the territory was recorded by Herodotus ); while those who lived in what is now the Great Hungarian Plain may be identified with the Sigynnae.

The Second Vienna Award was voided by the Allied Commission through the Armistice Agreement with Rumania ( September 12, 1944 ) whose Article 19 stipulated the following: " The Allied Governments regard the decision of the Vienna award regarding Transylvania as and void and are agreed that Transylvania the greater part thereof ) should be returned to Rumania, subject to confirmation at the peace settlement, and the Soviet Government agrees that Soviet forces shall take part for this purpose in joint military operations with Rumania against Germany and Hungary.

In 1604-1606, István Bocskay, Lord of Bihar, led an insurrection against the Habsburg Emperor, whose army had recently occupied Transylvania and begun a reign of terror.

He returned to Transylvania in 1576, this time Stephen Báthory was elected to be king of Poland who left governing Transylvania to Christopher Báthory whose wife was his sister, Erzsébet Bocskai.

In 1581, both Erzsébet Bocskai and Christopher Báthory deceased and their 9 year old son Sigismund Báthory was elected to be prince of Transylvania ; but being quite young at his father's death, the government was entrusted to a regency, one of whose members was Stephen Bocskay.

In the earliest manuscript of Dracula, dated 8 March 1890, the castle is set in Styria, although the setting was changed to Transylvania six days later.

It is possible that in Romania particularly where Hungarians live in large number the area called Transylvania above listed foods are known and made with dill, still they are Hungarian foods.

Some medieval chronicles and literary works derive the name of the city of Buda from him. There is an ancient legend, amongst the Székely people that says: " After the death of Attila, in the bloody Battle of Krimhilda, 3000 Hun warriors managed to escape, to settle in a place called " Csigle mezo " ( today Transylvania ) and they changed their name from Huns to Szekler ( Szekely ).

Areas of Transylvania where Hungarian has co-official status ( in the localities of those areas, at least 20 % of the population is Hungarian ).

Usually it is dry cured, always with granular salt ; in Erdély or Transylvania and Banat, paprika might be added.

The performance is interrupted by Riff Raff and Magenta, who stage a coup and announce their plan to return to the planet of Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania.

The largest Unitarian denomination worldwide today is also the oldest surviving Unitarian denomination ( since 1565, first use of the term " Unitarian " 1600 ); the Unitarian Church of Transylvania ( in Romania, which is union with the Unitarian Church in Hungary ).

** The Union of Alba Iulia is proclaimed: Following the March 27 incorporation of Bessarabia and Bucovina, Transylvania unites with Romania.

* January 23 – Battle of Nagyszőllős: János Kemény of Transylvania is killed.

The independence of Transylvania is recognized by both sides and Austria's annual tribute to the Ottomans is abolished.

* December 31 – Thirty Years ' War: The Peace of Nikolsburg is signed between Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor and Gabor Bethlen, Prince of Transylvania.

* June 29 or June 30 – The first document is fully written in Romanian: the letter of Neacşu, a trader from Câmpulung, to Johannes Benkner, the mayor of Braşov, warning that the Ottoman Empire is preparing its troops to cross into Wallachia and Transylvania ; the script used is Romanian Cyrillic.

* The Teutonic Order is expelled from Transylvania because they wanted to separate from Hungary.

Unlike other parts of Romania, such as the Black Sea coast or Transylvania, Bucharest's cultural scene is much more eclectic, without a defined style, and instead incorporates various elements of Romanian and international culture.

* The city of Marosvásárhely ( Transylvania ) is first documented in the papal registry under the name Novum Forum Siculorum.

Red beet with horseradish is also used as a salad served with lamb dishes at Easter called sfecla cu hrean in Transylvania and other Romanian regions.

There are also two traditional colleges: the University of Kentucky, which is the state's flagship public university, and Transylvania University, which is the states oldest four year university.

* 1918 – Transylvania unites with Romania, following the incorporation of Bessarabia ( March 27 ) and Bukovina ( November 28 ), thus concluding the Great Union.

While Fritigern asked Valens to allow the Thervingi to cross the northern Roman border and settle in Moesia or Thracia, with the Danube River and Roman frontier forts protecting them from the Huns, ( thus this was a form of asylum ), Athanaric and many of his followers retreated to Caucaland ( probably Transylvania ).

It also accepted the leadership of the pope over the Romanian church of Transylvania, thus forming the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church.

In 1791, they issued a petition to Emperor Leopold II of Austria, named Supplex Libellus Valachorum based on the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, demanding equal political rights with the other ethnicities for the Romanians in Transylvania and thus starting the movement of national awakening.

Finally, the Diet, meeting in Sebeş on March 12, 1556, swore again allegiance to " the son of King John ", thus the young king and his mother returned to Transylvania.

In July he even proclaimed himself " prince of Wallachia, Transylvania, and all of Moldavia " in Iaşi, thus bringing about the union of the three principalities.

The term became more common after the Treaty of Versailles, when the attachment of Transylvania to the Kingdom of Romania occurred as a result of the Treaty of Trianon ; thus the Kingdom of Romania under King Ferdinand I came to include all provinces with an ethnic Romanian majority, by comparison with the previous Romanian Old Kingdom under King Carol I, which did not include the provinces of Transylvania, Bessarabia and Bukovina.

In 1940, as a result of the Second Vienna Award, Northern Transylvania ( including Cluj ) was ceded to Hungary and thus the airport was used by the Hungarian Air Force and German Luftwaffe.

Hawke relocates Ruritania to the Balkans, and makes it smaller and more socially cohesive ; Spurling, who places the country in the Carpathians, thus hinting at its being in fact the former Habsburg province of Transylvania — today part of Romania — introduces ethnic and linguistic divisions ; Haythorne puts Ruritania on the Northern side of Czechoslovakia to Spurling's setting.

They flooded Transylvania and the neighbouring districts of Royal Hungary, thus destroying the labour of their settlement.
