Common land in the area of the later Wild's farm ( Shrub End and Croft House ) was assigned some to Thomas Wild, Senior and some to William Wild, one area as freehold and other areas as copyhold.

The ground floor is the " Old " ( i. e. Senior ) Common Room.

The ground floor contains the college bar and shop i. e. ' The Buttery ' ( west side ) and the Senior Common Room lunch room ( east side ).

The 1966 new Senior Common Room range ( Stc XXIII )( northern and eastern sides ) was a benefaction of the Bernard Sunley Foundation and contains some smaller rooms and the principal SCR lounge, replacing Victorian facilities.

More recently the graduate common moved to the Old Quad, and the space, still known as the " Old Cloisters " has been used as a library overspill area, a teaching room and, in 2010-11, as the temporary Senior Common Room.

Building began on the current chapel in 1656, and it replaced an old chapel which was located in a space now occupied by the Senior Common Room.

The Front Quadrangle also houses the Junior, Middle and Senior Common Rooms, as well as lodgings for Fellows and undergraduates.

In the early 17th century, the current Senior Common Room was built as lodgings for the principal.

Today the building is mostly taken over by the Senior Common Room, with the northern ground-floor room being the Old Library.

A portrait of Oliver Cromwell hangs in the Senior Common Room and portraits of the 1662 dissenters hang in the library and the corridors of the main college building, together with portraits of Viscount Saye and Sele, John Hampden, Thomas Jollie and Hugh Peters.
