However, as soon as mutants travel there, they are captured and fitted with power-negating collars placed around their necks ; they are put to work building Sentinels for the Genoshan government, under the direction of Bolivar Trask, Cameron Hodge, Henry Peter Gyrich, and a government official known as " the Leader.

Genosha continues to enslave mutants employing Sentinels and Magistrates, until they are rescued by Magneto and his Acolytes with the aid of many mutants ( examples being Random, Arclight, Tar Baby, Blockbuster, Peepers, the second Shocker, and even Gambit, the Beast and Professor X ).

Sentinels are a fictional variety of mutant-hunting robots, appearing in the Marvel Comics Universe.

According to Marvel canon, Sentinels are programmed to locate mutants and capture or kill them.

Sentinels are designed to hunt mutants who often represent the protagonists of Marvel stories ; therefore, the sentinels are usually employed as supervillains or as the tools of other villains.

Sentinels are technologically advanced, and have exhibited a wide variety of abilities.

* Bio-Sentinels-Humans infected by a technological virus created by Simon Trask, the victims become anti-mutant activists, who later at Trask's command, are fully transformed into robotic Sentinels mindlessly following Trask's commands.

The following are alternative versions of the Sentinels, which appear outside of regular Marvel canon.

These Sentinels are equipped with several body-mounted gun turrets, and their primary directive is to protect humans rather than to hunt mutants.

In the joke comic Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe, the X-Men are killed by silent, black, man-sized " Ninja Sentinels ".

The Sentinels are adapted by Sebastian Shaw, now the director of S. H. I. E. L. D., to serve a reverse purpose, and now aid in the hunting of sapien rebels.

These are aesthetically similar to regular Sentinels, but each is subtly different from the others.

*" What if ... starring Secret Wars: 25 years later " the children of heroes are teleported back to earth where sometime in the last 25 years, a variation of " Days of future's past " is shown when the group is attacked by Sentinels

These Sentinels are much more powerful and heavily-armed than their comic book counterparts.

Three upgraded Sentinels are later used by S. H. I. E. L. D.

In " Badlands ", Sentinels called Trackers ( based on Wolverine ) are produced and able to used laser claws and can heal themselves.

There are two types of Sentinels: one is a smaller, aerial model ; and the other is a giant walking behemoth.

In most games, the Sentinels are human-sized foes rather than the massive figures that are seen in most of their comic book appearances:

* Sentinels are seen in Cyclops / Spider-Man's level in X-Men: Mutant Academy 2.

There are several versions of the Sentinels in this game:

* In X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, the Sentinels are shown assisting with the evacuation after Apocalypse devastates New York City.

Following his sister orders, Quicksilver tried to help the White House, only resulting in the death of many mutants at the hands of Nimrod Model Sentinels, which were controlled by the Reverend Stryker before his death.

In the future twenty years from now the X-Men have all been killed and the world is being controlled by the mutant-hunting robots named Sentinels.

In his future timeline, Ahab was the master of the Hounds, mind controlled mutants who hunted down other mutants for Ahab and his masters, the Sentinels.

For their swan song, Claremont and Byrne produced " Days of Future Past " ( Uncanny X-Men # 141 – 142, 1981 ), which portrayed a dystopian future in which America is a wasteland controlled by Sentinels.

Due to the tampering of Bastion and his Sentinels, the X-Mansion computer system Cerebro gains autonomy and seeks to destroy the X-Men by employing its knowledge of the Xavier Protocols.

However, the entire island was reduced to rubble and its mutant population was slain by Cassandra Nova's Sentinels.

" With the help of Cable and a flood orchestrated by Storm, the X-Men simultaneously free the mutant slaves and destroy the Sentinels.

Later, as he was checking on Emma Frost who was in a comatose state after the mutant Trevor Fitzroy unleashed the mutant-hunting Sentinels on Emma Frost and her students known as the Hellions, the mansion was hit by an electricity breakdown.

On the way back, they found that the O * N * E * Sentinels guarding the Xavier Institute had become infected by nano-Sentinels and attacked the school.

In 2009, the Sentinels were ranked by IGN as the 38th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.

* Composite-created by merging the remaining portions of five Sentinels destroyed by the X-Men and came under control of Ashley Martin.

* Tri-Sentinel: A combination of three fairly standard Sentinels bonded together by Loki, and defeated by Spider-Man at the peak of his cosmic ( Captain Universe ) powers.

* Soviet Sentinels: Created by the Soviet Union and later purchased by Cuban government officials.

* Colcord's Sentinels: Some of the Boxbots created by Madison Jeffries ( aka Box ) to serve the Weapon X Program.

In Ultimate X-Men, the Sentinels, created by the Ultimate Marvel version of Bolivar Trask, were already in action at the beginning of the first story arc, hunting down and killing mutants on the streets, in a program apparently openly and publicly acknowledged by the U. S. government.

William Stryker, Jr. using Sentinel Tech, later displayed an ability to summon a fleet of Sentinels after being attacked by the Shroud.

* Sentinels appeared in a number of episodes of the X-Men animated series voiced by David Fox.

* Sentinels have appeared in the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series voiced by Jim Ward.

In one variation of the Days of Future Past timeline seen in the Weapon X: Days of Future Now limited series, one of the Boxbots evolves into a new Master Mold and a new breed of Sentinels.

Acting under orders from Trask, the Sentinels rescued Senator Kelly from Magneto, but Master Mold then declared that he was " giving the orders now.

In the 1960s, out of fear of a race of superhuman mutants that could dominate the whole world and enslave normal human beings, Trask makes Master Mold, a super-computer, in the shape of a giant Sentinel robot, that will control and facilitate the construction of the Sentinels ( mechanical warriors that are programmed to hunt and capture all superhuman mutants ).

The original Master Mold is eventually destroyed when Trask sacrifices himself by causing an explosion to prevent the Sentinels taking over humanity, but several others are later built by other people who want to manufacture Sentinels.

This particular Master Mold builds a new breed of Sentinels, known as Wild Sentinels, which are capable of assimilating non-organic materials to assume different shapes, most of them insectoid, as well as a breed of Nano-Sentinels.

This Master Mold is taken over by Cassandra Nova, who uses the Wild Sentinels to destroy Genosha and in her subsequent plan to destroy the X-Men.

In the alternate reality of Weapon X: Days of Future Now, one of Madison Jeffries ' Boxbots dubbed Bot becomes the new Master Mold and traps Jeffries ' within its body in order to use his powers to build new Sentinels without exhausting Jeffries.

Master Mold rationalizes that his created purpose to protect humans from mutants is illogical, since mutants themselves are humans, so he tells Trask that he and his Sentinels are the only things that could protect humanity from itself.

Master Mold and all Sentinels are believed to be destroyed at this point, but they resurface in season four.

It is revealed that several Sentinels, and Master Mold's head and intelligence, had survived Xavier's attack.

Master Mold was commissioning Sentinels to steal top-secret, indestructible lightweight plastics in order to create a new body for himself.

However, in Bishop's timeline, Master Mold has been rebuilt and rules the United States, using the Sentinels to hunt down mutants who are put in concentration camps.

They must fight through enemies from the comics such as an army of hundreds of Sentinels, the knights of the Hellfire Club, the Reavers and supervillains such as Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Master Mold, The White Queen, Juggernaut, Living Monolith, and Mystique.

The Sentinels left with Trask and brought him to his first creation, the Master Mold, who orders him to construct more Sentinels.

* Master Mold would return and Bolivar's son, Larry, still unaware of his own mutant status ( who had prophetic dreams ), would follow in his father's footsteps and create new Sentinels to avenge his father.

In " Backlash ," he had managed to create Master Mold to create the Sentinels.

Cyclops sends X-Force to shut down the Master Mold that is powering the Sentinels.
