Existing normally aspirated cars such as the BMW M3 could continue to compete under the Class C clause, unlike the turbocharged Ford Sierra and Nissan Skyline GT-R models which the new rules excluded from the category.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a Japanese sports car based on the Nissan Skyline range.

After a 16 year hiatus since the KPGC110 in 1972, the GT-R name was revived in 1989 with the Skyline R32.

The Skyline GT-R ( R33 ) was also the first production car to lap the legendary Nürburgring in under eight minutes.

The Skyline GT-R became the flagship of Nissan performance, showcasing many advanced technologies including the ATTESA-ETS 4WD system and the Super-HICAS four-wheel steering.

Production of the Skyline GT-R ended in August 2002.

The car was replaced by the Nissan GT-R, an independent vehicle not sold as a Skyline.

The Skyline GT-R was never manufactured outside of Japan, and the sole export markets were Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, in 1991, and the UK ( in 1997, thanks to the Single Vehicle Approval scheme ) as used Japanese imports.

The first Skyline GT-R, known by the internal Nissan designation PGC10, was released on February 4, 1969.

The first Skyline GT-R rode on a semi-trailing arm strut suspension.

A popular name for the PGC and KPGC10 Skyline GT-R was " Hakosuka ," which is a combination of the Japanese word for box (" hako " or ハコ ) and the pronounced abbreviation of skyline (" Suka " or スカ as in スカイライン or " sukairain ").

This edition of the GT-R was also known as the " Ken & Mary " Skyline, due to a popular advertisement featuring a young couple ( Ken and Mary ) enjoying the Hokkaido countryside.

After cancelling the Skyline GT-R in 1973, Nissan revived the GT-R again in 1989.

This new 2. 6 L all wheel drive concept was put into production as the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R.

Due to strict Group A homologation rules, Nissan was required to also sell a series of the Skyline GT-R which more accurately reflected the car they use in Group A racing.

This series was called the Skyline GT-R ' Nismo ' edition.

The Skyline GT-R ' Nismo ', introduced on February 22, 1990, has a total production of 560 units as required for the " Evolution " models regulation ( over 500 ).

The Skyline GT-R ' N1 ' model, introduced on July 19, 1991, was designed for home-market N1 racing with a total of 228 units produced.

To celebrate the success of the GT-R in both Group N and Group A racing, Nissan introduced the Skyline GT-R V-Spec (" Victory SPECification ") car on February 3, 1993.

Finally on February 14, 1994 the Skyline GT-R V-Spec II was released, with the only change being wider 245 / 45 / 17 tires.

Total production of the R32 Skyline GT-R was 43, 394 units, with production starting on May 22, 1989.

The GT / GF-BNR34 ( R34 ) Skyline GT-R and GT-R V-spec models were released in January 1999.

This period saw the launch of innovative models such as the Parker 51, the Sheaffer Snorkel and the Eversharp Skyline and ( later ) Skyliner, while the Esterbrook J series of lever-fill models with interchangeable steel nibs offered inexpensive reliability to the masses.

After the official launch on Ottawa Cablevision in October 1983, the NABU Network was introduced by Ottawa's Skyline Cablevision in 1984 and a year later in Sowa, Japan, via a collaboration between NABU and ASCII Corp. NABU machines used Telidon for online banking and other services.

In the 1950s, Millbrae residents united to resist efforts to divide the city by the planned Junipero Serra Freeway ( I-280 ), which was later routed parallel to Junipero Serra Boulevard, then through a canyon in San Bruno up to Skyline Boulevard.

It was later standard equipment in all GT-R models for the R34 Skyline GT-R.

The Skyline GT-R line were retired from the JGTC series ( later changed Super GT Series ) in 2004.

They also had two live guitarists, first Robin Jacobs ( who later joined Razor Skyline ) and then George Earth ( most recently of Small Halo, also with Tina Root ), and two live drummers, first Eric Gebow ( now with Blue Man Group ) and then Scott van Shoick.

He would continue to take part in the Japanese Formula Three Championship, Japanese Touring Car Championship ( JTCC ), the latter while driving a Nissan Skyline GT-R ( previously in the Cosmo Oil Sierra Cosworth ) in the Group A championships and later a Honda Civic in the Supertouring car championships.

The 11th-generation Skyline ( V35 ) was another major turning point for the nameplate, as it dropped some of the Skyline's trademark characteristics such as the straight-6 engine and turbocharging, eventually separated the GT-R into its own line, and moved to V6-engined era, this decision which extended to all later Skylines.

It also signalled the first Bathurst victory for a six-cylinder-engined car, an achievement that would not be repeated until the maiden win of the Nissan Skyline GT-R ‘ Godzilla ’ much later in 1991.

The Duck Dunn P-Bass became the basis for a Lakland Skyline Series signature bass made by Chicago bass company Lakland a few years later, which is still available in an updated version featuring a thinner Jazz neck with cream binding and rectangular block inlays.

Some of the later models featured more sophistication such as Nissan's proprietary 4-wheel steering ( HICAS ) and 4-wheel drive ( ATTESA ) systems, which were based on the Skyline models.

The Skyland Resort, originally called Stony Man Camp, was built in 1895 at what later became the highest point on the Skyline Drive, with a sweeping view of the Shenandoah Valley at 3, 680 feet.

It was developed to provide upscale transportation, competing with the Prince Skyline and Gloria which were later merged into the Nissan family.

In later years, the Nissan Skyline was positioned as a sports sedan / coupe, whereas the Nissan Gloria was turned into a sporty version of the Cedric ( with identical styling but using a different radiator grille and front & rear light clusters ).

After Colorado left in 1947 to join the Big Six Conference ( later the Big Eight Conference ) the MSC became popularly known as the Skyline Conference or Skyline Six while the Big Six took over the Big Seven name.

Hanks later donated $ 125, 000 to the Skyline performing arts department.

In two seasons as head coach, he guided the Lobos to a 14 – 6 record and earned Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors both years.

Soon enough, he won the GT500 title in 1998 and 1999, and earned runner-up in the standings in 2000, all three years driving for Nissan in a factory Nismo-prepared Skyline GT-R. By the end of the 2003 season ( he left the Nismo team in 2002 to join the factory Toyota team the following year ) he was the most successful driver in series history with the most career championship points ever scored by a single driver.

The Gators ' volleyball team earned the school's first NCAA Tournament bid by capturing the Skyline Conference championship on Nov. 3, 2007.
