Urban portions of the route in Southern California are named the Santa Ana Freeway, Hollywood Freeway, and Ventura Freeway at various points between East Los Angeles and Carpinteria, California.

Portions of the route between Southern California and the Bay Area are named El Camino Real or El Camino Real Freeway, but such names are rarely used colloquially ; the route number is used instead.

Opened in 1967, the Garden Grove Freeway had the distinction of being one of the few freeways in Southern California to have never been widened from its original alignment, eventually resulting in severe rush hour congestion, particularly as Santa Ana's population surged to over 300, 000 during the 1990s.

The Southern Freeway has two sections: the northern section between Waterfall and Bulli Tops interchange ( with a speed limit of, except for the southbound approach to the Interchange, which is ) and the southern section between Wollongong suburb of Gwynneville to Yallah ( with a speed limit ), where it rejoins the Princes Highway.

The Southern Freeway route starts at Waterfall in the north, taking more or less a parallel route with Princes Highway until the sprawling Bulli Tops interchange ( with Appin Road ( State Route 69 ) and Princes Highway ).

The station is located on Princes Drive and is 144 km from Southern Cross station.

The city is situated on the western bank of the Catawba River in the Southern Piedmont area of North Carolina, north of Interstate 85, south of North Carolina State Highway 16, and west of Charlotte.

It is located in the northeastern portion of the county at the intersections of U. S. Highway 175 and State Highway 155 along the Southern Pacific Railroad.
