During the 1920s American artists Gerald Murphy, Charles Demuth and Stuart Davis created paintings prefiguring the pop art movement that contained pop culture imagery such as mundane objects culled from American commercial products and advertising design.

Eight large paintings were placed in gilded frames above the stone pediments and busts, including three of the Stuart and French Royal family, one executed by Sir Godfrey Kneller of Lord Burlington and his sisters, and popular mythological scenes such as " Daphne and Apollo " and " The Judgment of Paris " Twelve antique busts of Roman and Greek figures, such as Emperors, poets, politicians and generals were also positioned on gilded brackets designed by Lord Burlington ..

The museum consists of the original house Stuart was born in, with copies of paintings from throughout his career hanging throughout the house.

Among them are a world-class collection of Hudson River School paintings, including major works by Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church ; iconic genre and history paintings including works by William Sidney Mount and Eastman Johnson ; a vast range of American portraits, including paintings by Rembrandt Peale and Gilbert Stuart ; all 435 of John James Audubon ’ s extant preparatory watercolors for Birds of America ; and an encyclopedic collection of more than 800 works documenting the full range of representational sculpture in America from the colonial period to the present day.

Stuart Davis, Witold Gordon, Edward " Buk " Ulrich, Henry Billings and Donald Deskey all have art displayed in these lounges.

In downtown Seattle, Stuart passed a tobacconist's window with cigars displayed around a sign proclaiming their name — Carnation.
