The major tributaries entering the Paraguay River from the Paraneña region-such as the Apa, Aquidabán, and Tebicuary Rivers-descend rapidly from their sources in the Paraná Plateau to the lower lands.

In 1678 the population settled close to the Tobatyry River, a place called “ Espinillo ”, but the soil was no good for agriculture so many people decided to organize and do a recognition expedition to the area beyond the Tebicuary River.

Also, several biographers and authorities present convincing documented evidence that Barrios was born, instead, in the nearby town of Villa Florida, Misiones, situated on the Tebicuary River some 30 km north of San Juan Bautista.

The northern and southern borders of the department are formed by, respectively, the Tebicuary and the Paraná rivers, the latter of which is an important waterway in the region.

The Western part is an area of low-lying marshes and swampland area, and consists of wetlands and tributaries to eastern Paraguay's largest river, the Tebicuary.

The Guaira is surrounded by the Tebicuary river and its affluents, the Tebicuari-mi with the streams Yhaca Guazu, Yhaca-mi, Aguapety, Guazu, Tacuaras.

The river tributaries flow into Tebicuary Paraguarí and rivers Tebicuarymí and the stream Mbuyapey bathe their coasts.

The Juruá River ( Portuguese Rio Juruá ; Spanish Río Yurúa ) is a southern affluent river of the Amazon River west of the Purus River, sharing with this the bottom of the immense inland Amazon depression, and having all the characteristics of the Purus as regards curvature, sluggishness and general features of the low, half-flooded forest country it traverses.

* 1541 – Hernando de Soto reaches the Mississippi River and names it Río de Espíritu Santo.

The Paraguay River ( Spanish: Río Paraguay ) divides the country into strikingly different eastern and western regions.

The boundary between the Chaco and Brazil was defined in 1927 ; it continues from the confluence of the Apa River ( Río Apa ) and Paraguay River northward along the course of the Río Paraguay to the border with Bolivia.

The northern border of the Paraneña region, set in 1872, follows the course of the Paraná River ( Río Paraná ), the ridges of the mountains in the northeast region, and finally the course of the Apa River until it empties into the Paraguay River.

Paraguay's southern border with Argentina comprises the Pilcomayo River ( Río Pilcomayo ), Paraná River, and Paraguay River.

The first of these eroded extensions stretching westward of the Paraná Plateau — the Northern Upland — occupies the portion northward from the Aquidabán River ( Río Aquidabán ) to the Apa River on the Brazilian border.

On Carte de la Louisiane et du cours du Mississippi ( 1718 ) by Guillaume Delisle and on A Map of North America ( 1768 ) by John Blair, the St. Croix River — more specifically what was then known as the east branch of the St. Croix River ( known today as the Namekagon River )— is shown as the Ouasisacadeba, a French representation of the Dakota name for the St. Croix River.

Maj. Gen. James Longstreet's command would remain in place for the day to deceive Pope into believing that Lee's entire force remained in his front, while Jackson's command made their flanking march, north and then east, to take strategically important Germantown, Virginia, where Pope's only two routes to Washington — the Warrenton Pike ( modern U. The Champlain Valley ( or more technically correct, the Champlain Lake Valley ) is a region of the United States around Lake Champlain in Vermont and New York extending slightly into Quebec, Canada — as part of the St. Lawrence River drainage basin drained northward by the Richelieu River into the St. Lawrence River at Sorel-Tracy, Quebec ( northeast of Montreal )— but the Richelieu valley is not generally referred to as part of the Champlain.

The Grand Junction Canal had reduced the distance to London from the Midlands by 60 miles ( 100 kilometres )— via Oxford and the River Thames — and made the journey reliable.

Commissioned by the president of the Ottawa Silica Company, the Effigy Tumuli earthwork in Illinois is composed of five abstract animal earthworks reclaiming the site of an abandoned surface coal mine along the Illinois River ; the shapes ( 1983-85 )— a frog, a water strider, a catfish, a turtle, and a snake — reflect the environment of the site, which overlooks the river.

Historic contamination by polychlorinated biphenyls ( PCBs ), polycylclic aromatic hydrocarbons ( PAHs ) and heavy metals has put the canal under the EPA's Grand Calumet River Area of Concern ( AoC )— the only AoC to be listed impaired in all 14 beneficial use categories.

The Ipatiev Monastery ( Ипатьевский монастырь in Russian )— sometimes translated into English as Hypatian Monastery — is a male monastery, situated on the bank of the Kostroma River just opposite the city of Kostroma.

The main urban buildings were grouped in the area of today's central square and the Matrosskaya Sloboda ( Sailors ' Suburb )— a territory from the Obyasneniya River as far as Gaydamak tram stop.

Within the valley itself are two " major " rivers, the Annapolis River which flows west from the Caribou Bog in the central part of the valley into the Annapolis Basin, and the Cornwallis River which flows east from Caribou Bog into the Minas Basin.

The valley also struggles with pollution from farm runoffs and residential sewers in its two major rivers, the Annapolis River and the Cornwallis River.

A major road, Route N194, travels up the valley of the Gravona River leading to Corte and is paralleled by a scenic narrow-gauge railway.

Of the 227 major dams in the Columbia River drainage basin, the four Washington dams on the lower Snake River are often identified for removal, notably in an ongoing lawsuit concerning a Bush administration plan for salmon recovery.

Except for the smaller rivers in the southeast, most of the major rivers and river systems in Cambodia drain into the Tonle Sap or into the Mekong River.

Connecticut is named for the Connecticut River, a major U. S. river that approximately bisects the state.

The Spanish expeditions to the Pacific Northwest, with the 1791 Francisco de Eliza expedition preceding Vancouver by a year, had also missed the Fraser River although they knew from its muddy plume that there was a major river located nearby.

Hungary has three major geographic regions ( which are subdivided to seven smaller ones ): the Great Alföld, lying east of the Danube River ; the Transdanubia, a hilly region lying west of the Danube and extending to the Austrian foothills of the Alps ; and the North Hungarian Mountains, which is a mountainous and hilly country beyond the northern boundary of the Great Hungarian Plain.

In 1237 – 1238 the Mongols burnt down the city of Vladimir ( 4 February 1238 ) and other major cities of northeast Russia, routed the Russians at the Sit ' River, and then moved west into Poland and Hungary.

Lowell, Massachusetts, utilising of canals and ten thousand horsepower delivered by the Merrimack River, is considered by some to be a major contributor to the success of the American Industrial Revolution.

A genetic study by Eizirik and coworkers in 2001 confirmed the absence of a clear geographical subspecies structure, although they found that major geographical barriers, such as the Amazon River, limited the exchange of genes between the different populations.
