The Ridgeway meets the more recent ( 1997 ) Thames Path National Trail at the Goring Gap, where both trails use opposite banks of the River Thames between Goring-on-Thames and Mongewell ; the Thames Path following the western bank and the Ridgeway the eastern.

It is located on the Thames Path National Trail.

Around the year 2000 AD, several footbridges were added along the Thames, either as part of the Thames Path or in commemoration of the Millennium.

Upstream are smaller pedestrian ferries, for example Hampton Ferry and Shepperton to Weybridge Ferry the last being the only non-permanent crossing that remains on the Thames Path.

The Thames Path National Trail runs along the riverside.

Narrow Street forms a part of the north bank of the Thames Path, the walk is between tall former warehouses and modern flats.

The Thamesmead Riverside Walk runs alongside the Thames through Thamesmead West, Thamesmead Central and Thamesmead North and is part of both the Thames Path Southeast Extension and National Cycle Route 1.

There are also some Long-distance footpaths in the Borough: among them the Thames Path and the London Outer Orbital Path.

Commercial Road runs underneath the c2c platforms, while to the south lies Narrow Street and the Thames Path along the north bank of the River Thames.

M. K. Lawson in his Dictionary of National Biography article on Harthacnut states that it is unclear whether Harthacnut was to have England as well as Denmark, but it was probably a reflection of a formal arrangement that mints south of the Thames produced silver pennies in his name, while those to the north were almost all Harold's.

Domesday Book was eventually placed in the Public Record Office, London ; it can be now seen in a glass case in the museum at The National Archives in Kew, which is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in South West London.

When Thames Water was privatised in 1990, its river management functions were transferred to the National Rivers Authority, in 1996 subsumed into the Environment Agency.

Other public bus routes that have used the crossing, and since ceased, were the Eastern National 402 ( Southend-Dartford / Kings Cross ), and the Dartford-Basildon ' Thames Weald ' Express.

Denys Lasdun's building for the National Theatre – an " urban landscape " of interlocking terraces responding to the site at King's Reach on the River Thames to exploit views of St Paul's Cathedral and Somerset House.

The Severn and Thames cycle route ( part of Route 4 ) of the Sustrans National Cycle Network passes through the town.

It is an interchange between National Rail trains between central London and Dartford ( north Kent ), and the Docklands Light Railway ( DLR ) between Lewisham to the south and the Docklands area and the City of London north of the River Thames.

On the west side, in Westminster, are Thames House ( the headquarters of MI5 ), behind which is Horseferry House ( the National Probation Service headquarters ), and Clelland House and Abell House ( the headquarters of HM Prison Service ), and the Millbank Tower and Tate Britain.

Richmond station ( London ) is a National Rail and London Underground station in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in south west London which is managed by South West Trains.

Near Bourne End, across the River Thames, is Cock Marsh, an area of common land and floodplain owned by the National Trust.

The Thames Path National Trail follows the River Thames through Bourne End ; upstream on the Buckinghamshire side, crossing the river at the footbridge, and downstream through Berkshire.

The Thames Path National Trail joins ( from Cricklade ) before running into the verge as the right of way, with the traffic having no speed restrictions the pedestrian has to endure unkept vegetation and traffic until the Thames Path has a dangerous road crossing to Inglesham Church and along the river to Lechlade.

Across the river Thames from Chertsey Bridge on the Middlesex side of the river is the Thames Path National Trail, and Chertsey Lock.

Runnymede is also along the Thames Path National Trail.

In England the route follows the Pennine Way, the Gritstone Trail, the Staffordshire Way, the Heart of England Way, the Oxfordshire Way, the Oxford Canal, the Thames Path, the Wey South Path and the North Downs Way to Dover.

The Thames Path is a National Trail, opened in 1996, following the length of the River Thames from its source near Kemble in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier at Charlton.

This is considered an extension of the Thames Path ( as recognised by the Ramblers Association ) and was opened in 2001, but is not part of the National Trail.

The Connecticut River, Thames River, and ports along the Long Island Sound have given the state a strong maritime tradition, which continues today.

Charlton Athletic were formed on 9 June 1905 by a group of 15-to 17-year-old boys in an area of Charlton which is no longer residential, near to the present-day site of the Thames Barrier.

In the early 21st century redevelopment is spreading into the more suburban parts of East and Southeast London, and into the parts of the counties of Kent and Essex which abut the Thames Estuary.

Despite the comparative obscurity of the kingdom, there were strong connections between Essex and the Kentish kingdom across the river Thames which led to the marriage of King Sledd to Ricula, sister of the king, Aethelbert of Kent.

They play at Craven Cottage, a ground on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham which has been their home since 1896.

Numerous finds have been made of spear heads and weaponry from the Bronze and Iron ages near the banks of the Thames in the London area, many of which had clearly been used in battle.

In 2002 a dig for the Channel 4 series Time Team unearthed a series of timbers driven vertically into the ground on the south bank of the Thames next to the SIS Building in Vauxhall which suggests the presence of a bridge or jetty 3, 000 years ago.

New canals were hastily built in the aim of replicating the commercial success of the Bridgewater Canal, the most notable being the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Thames and Severn Canal which opened in 1774 and 1789 respectively.

Kipper time is the season in which fishing for salmon is forbidden in Great Britain, originally the period 3 May to 6 January, in the River Thames by an Act of Parliament.

To the east of London, the Dartford Crossing of the Thames between Thurrock and Dartford is the lesser grade A282 ; the Crossing, which consists of two tunnels and the QE2 ( Queen Elizabeth II ) bridge, is named Canterbury Way.

From the roundabout are four exits ; one to the high street, one to Kingston upon Thames, and two others which go to the main A3 London to Portsmouth Road which has been the main route from the south of England docks to Central London for several hundred years.

Part of the New Palace's area of was reclaimed from the Thames, which is the setting of its principal façade, the river front.

London also recorded one of the earlier extreme cases of water quality problems with the Great Stink on the Thames of 1858, which led to construction of the London sewerage system soon afterward.

The oldest, and arguably most famous, head race is the Head of the River Race, founded by Steve Fairbairn in 1926 which takes place each March on the river Thames in London, United Kingdom.

This is most common if the person who converts had been Anglican, the reverse of which is referred to as " Swimming the Thames.

Outside the church, facing the River Thames, is a statue by L. Cubitt Bevis erected in 1969, commemorating him as " saint ", " scholar ", and " statesman ", the back of which displays his coat-of-arms.

The section clearly identified as an ancient trackway extends from Wiltshire along the chalk ridge of the Berkshire Downs to the River Thames at the Goring Gap, part of the Icknield Way which ran, not always on the ridge, from Salisbury Plain to East Anglia.

After a merger in July 1968 ABC Television became Thames Television which continued production of the series, although it was still broadcast under the ABC name.

After this, Bazalgette designed the Thames Embankment which housed sewers, water pipes and the London Underground.

Major argues that the capture of Silchester, of which no record has survived, was not the work of Angles but of the West Saxons, who probably struck north from Winchester, possibly acting in concert with a separate force making its way up the Thames Valley towards Reading.
