Traditions are kept alive at Chalmers.

These schools are known as Gokaden ( The Five Traditions ).

These institutes are the Jewish Oral Traditions Research Center and the National Voice Archives ( the Phonoteca at the Jewish National and University Library ).

The metaplot of the game involves a four-way struggle between the technological and authoritarian Technocracy, the insane Marauders, the cosmically evil Nephandi and the nine mystical Traditions ( that tread the middle path ), to which the player characters are assumed to belong.

The Traditions exist to unify users of magic under a common banner to protect reality ( particularly those parts of reality that are magical ) against the growing disbelief of the modern world, the spreading dominance of the Technocracy, and the predations of unstable mages such as Marauders and Nephandi.

Each of the Traditions are largely independent organizations unified by a broadly accepted paradigm for practicing magic.

Though unified in their desire to keep magic alive, the magic practiced by different Traditions are often wildly different and entirely incompatible with one another.

Traditions are often presumed to be ancient, unalterable, and deeply important, though they may sometimes be much less " natural " than is presumed.

Traditions are a subject of study in several academic fields in social sciences — chiefly anthropology, archeology, and biology — with somewhat different meanings in different fields.

Traditions are still alive, especially in folk music and dances.

The white tower stacks of the Jackson Library and the Spartan water tower are recognizable structures in the Greensboro community, and the campus is also home to " the Rawk " and the clock tower — two campus landmarks — and school traditions ( See Traditions below ).
