That same year Beaux was asked to produce a self-portrait for the Medici collection in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

The Uffizi Gallery in Florence was initially conceived as a palace for the offices of Florentian magistrates ( hence the name ), it later evolved into a display place for many of the paintings and sculpture collected by the Medici family or commissioned by them.

After having kept the Mona Lisa in his apartment for two years, Peruggia grew impatient and was finally caught when he attempted to sell it to the directors of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence ; it was exhibited all over Italy and returned to the Louvre in 1913.

There was a much more significant flood in 1966 which damaged most of the art collections in Florence severely, including the Uffizi.

A lifesize group of marble Niobids, including one of Niobe sheltering one of her daughters, found in Rome in 1583 at the same time as the Wrestlers, were taken in 1775 to the Uffizi in Florence where, in a gallery devoted to them, they remain some of the most prominent surviving sculptures of Classical antiquity ( see below ).

* Gentile da Fabriano, 15th century painter, whose most famous work, an oil painting of the Epiphany, is in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

His most famous surviving work is the Portinari Triptych ( Uffizi, Florence ), an altarpiece commissioned for the church of San Egidio in the hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence by Tommaso Portinari, the manager of the Bruges branch of the Medici Bank.

The portraits of her early period include those of Maximilian II of Bavaria ; Frederick IV of Denmark ; the 12 most beautiful Venetian court ladies ; the " Artist and her Sister Naneta " ( Uffizi ); and August the Strong of Saxony, who acquired a large collection of her pastels.

The most esteemed works of Lippi as a painter are a Crucifixion in the Uffizi gallery at Florence, and a Triumph of David which he executed for the salon of Angiolo Galli, introducing into it portraits of the seventeen children of the owner.
