The band re-formed in 2009 and played all over the UK, including gigs at London's 100 Club ( where they were joined on stage by members of the Undertones & The Chords ), Belfast, Isle of Man scooter rally & Manchester Academy where they were joined on stage by Mani of The Stone Roses & Primal Scream. They continued playing in 2010 and are presently in the third year of their reformation.

Although much of the earlier Undertones material drew influence from punk rock and new wave, the Undertones also incorporated elements of rock, glam rock and post-punk into material released after 1979, before citing soul and Motown as the influence for the material released upon their final album.

gigs performed at The Casbah gave the Undertones increased confidence in their musical ability, and in June 1977 they performed concerts outside of Derry for the first time, supporting a Dublin punk group named The Radiators from Space.

A number of diverse artists have cited Slade as an influence, including 90s icons Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, punk pioneers The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Undertones, The Runaways and The Clash, glam followers Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Poison and Def Leppard and pop-rock stalwarts The Replacements, Cheap Trick and Oasis.

In the later 1970s, Sire transformed itself into a successful independent record label and went on to sign artists from the burgeoning punk rock and new wave scenes, including the Ramones, the Dead Boys, the Undertones and Talking Heads.

Sean Feargal Sharkey ( born 13 August 1958 ) is a singer from Northern Ireland who first found fame as the lead vocalist of pop punk band The Undertones.

In the world of music, the club was given exposure by Derry punk band, The Undertones, which had the cover of its 1980 hit single, My Perfect Cousin, feature a Subbuteo figure sporting the colours of Derry City.

Ireland proved particularly fertile ground for punk bands in the mid-1970s, including Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, The Radiators From Space, The Boomtown Rats and The Virgin Prunes.

In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, the Malvern Winter Gardens was a major regional venue for concerts by popular rock bands, including T-Rex, The Jam, AC / DC, Black Sabbath, The Undertones, and Joy Division.

In 1995, Jed Parish, Lucky Jackson, Ed Valauskas and Pete Caldes came to Boston as The Gravel Pit — an accomplished young rock band from New Haven, CT, seasoned by a few years of high-energy club gigs and a solid indie debut ( Crash Land, on Feralette Records ) based on influences like the Clash and The Undertones.

Irish bands such as Northern Ireland's Stiff Little Fingers and The Undertones as well as Dublin's The Radiators From Space, The Boomtown Rats, Berlin, The Blades, The Vipers and the avant-garde The Virgin Prunes were in the midst of the new genre.

The Undertones released thirteen singles and four studio albums between 1978 and 1983 before Sharkey announced his intention to leave the band in May 1983, citing musical differences as the reason for the break up.

In January 1979, the Undertones recorded their eponymous debut album at Eden Studios in Acton, West London, using producer Roger Bechirian, whom the band had worked with for the first time the previous December, when Bechirian had produced the band's second single, " Get Over You ".

The same week the album was released, the Undertones embarked on their ' Humming tour ', which saw the band play a total of 25 gigs across the UK between April and June.

Less than two weeks after the completion of the ' Humming tour ', the Undertones toured the United States for the second time ; this time as the headlining band.

Between September and December 1980, the Undertones performed two further tours: the ' Disaster Tour ( European Style )', which saw the band perform in continental Europe and — in December — the ' See No More ' tour of the UK.

One month prior to the release of this third album, in April 1981, the Undertones embarked on their ' Positive Touch tour '; this tour saw the band perform a total of 36 gigs across the UK mainland in the space of less than two months.

On 29 September 1981, the Undertones embarked on their biggest tour of Continental Europe, which lasted until 20 October 1981 and saw the band perform a total of 19 concerts in six countries.

" The Undertones did, however, release two studio singles, " Beautiful Friend " and " The Love Parade ", in February and October, however both of the singles the band released failed to make an impact upon the UK charts.

The band replaced Sharkey, who declined to rejoin the Undertones, with singer Paul McLoone.

Peel would later do the same with the first single by another famous Ulster band, The Undertones.

In 1984 she formed her own band Dawn Chorus And The Bluetits with her friend and neighbour Countdown presenter Carol Vorderman and their recordings included a version of Teenage Kicks with the Undertones ’ O ’ Neil brothers ( which was released on Stiff Records DAWN 1 ) and a Peel Session which was broadcast on Radio 1 in 1985.

Following the disbandment of The Undertones in 1983, Lead vocalist Feargal Sharkey pursued a solo career while the other band members formed That Petrol Emotion along with an American vocalist, Steve Mack.

At the very end of the decade The Undertones, a popular band in the ' 70s & ' 80s, reformed without ex-vocalist Feargal Sharkey.

As a result The Undertones became the first band to play at Rock City on 11 December 1980, ending the gig with Teenage Kicks, favourite song of DJ John Peel.
