Today it is the informal name of the Vermont National Guard which comprises both the Army and Air National Guards.

Today, the Vermont National Guard, composed of the Vermont Army National Guard and Vermont Air National Guard are collectively known as the Green Mountain Boys, even though women have served in both branches since the mid-twentieth century.

Henri Le Caron, who, while acting as a secret agent of the British government, held the position of " Inspector-General of the Irish Republican Army ," asserts that he distributed fifteen thousand stands of arms and almost three million rounds of ammunition in the care of the many trusted men stationed between Ogdensburg, New York and St. Albans, Vermont, in preparation for the intended raid.

His father, Elbridge Colby, was a professor of English, author, and Army officer who served in Army and in university positions in Tientsin, China ; Georgia ; Vermont ; and Washington, D. C. His grandfather, Charles Colby, had been a professor of chemistry at Columbia University but had died prematurely.

He was born in Tunbridge, Vermont, and lived there all his life, except for his service in the United States Army during World War II.

Irish immigrants later brought this style of wrestling to the United States, where it soon became widespread, especially because of the success of the wrestling champion of the Army of the Potomac, George William Flagg from Vermont.

On August 13, 1861, he was appointed a brigadier general in the Union Army after helping organize the 1st Vermont Brigade.

The First Vermont Brigade, or " Old Brigade " was an infantry brigade in the Union Army of the Potomac during the American Civil War.

Early in the battle, elements of the Vermont brigade, defending barricades forward of the rest of the Union Army, were ordered to retreat and spike their supporting artillery field pieces before the Confederates overran them.

Many former members of the brigade joined fraternal veterans organizations such as the Grand Army of the Republic and the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States and held reunions to recount their days in the First Vermont Brigade.

The second installation is an Army Aviation Support Facility ( AASF ) of the Vermont Army National Guard, supporting the 1st Battalion, 103d Aviation Regiment and the 86th Medical Company ( Air Ambulance ).

During the American Revolutionary War, he fought on the side of the Continental Army, though later in the war his regiment was considered a foreign unit belonging to the Vermont Republic, and was granted a commission as a colonel.

After his boyhood in Troy, New York and Rutland, Vermont, in October 1862 Jackson at the age of 19 joined as a private in Company K of 12th Vermont Infantry of the Union Army Jackson spent much of his free time sketching drawings of his friends and various scenes of Army camp life that he sent home to his family as his way of letting them know he was safe.

Smith & Wesson acquired Lewis Jennings ' improved version of inventor Walter Hunt's 1848 " Volition Repeating Rifle " and its caseless " Rocket Ball " ammunition, which had been produced in small numbers by Robbins & Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont.

Lake Champlain is situated in the Lake Champlain Valley between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York, drained northward by the long Richelieu River into the St. Lawrence River at Sorel-Tracy, Quebec northeast and downstream of Montreal.

It also receives the waters from the-long Lake George, so its basin collects waters from the northwestern slopes of the Green Mountains of Vermont, the north and west slopes of the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, and the northern most eastern peaks of the Adirondack Mountains of New York State.

The Green Mountain Boys were a militia organization first established in the 1760s in the territory between the British provinces of New York and New Hampshire, known as the New Hampshire Grants ( which later became the state of Vermont ).

When these disputes led to the formation of the Vermont Republic in 1777, the Green Mountain Boys became the state militia.

The original Green Mountain Boys were a militia organized in what is now southwestern Vermont in the decade prior to the American Revolutionary War.

The Green Mountain Boys later formed the basis of the Vermont militia that selected Seth Warner as its leader.

The army of the Vermont Republic was based upon the Green Mountain Boys.

The Green Mountain Transit Authority ( GMTA ) operates a local bus network throughout the micropolitan area, with stops in Montpelier and Barre, including nearby Waterbury, the Vermont State House, Ben & Jerry's factory, and the local Berlin Mall.

They are bordered on the east by Lake Champlain and Lake George, which separate them from the Green Mountains in Vermont.

Lake Champlain, a long and relatively narrow lake formed by the action of glaciers during the last ice age, separates the Green Mountains of Vermont from the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
