Vigan is situated in a Quarterly Age sedimentary plain called the Vigan-Bantay Plain which is part of the Ilocos coastal plain.

The ridge divides the Vigan-Bantay Plain into northern and southern plains.

The drainage network of the eastern margin of Vigan-Bantay plain consist of deeply cut valleys whose pattern is strongly controlled by main faulting trends, particularly those in the northerly and easterly directions.

The relief of the Vigan-Bantay plain is actively level to undulating with a slope ranging from 0 % to 8 %.

The remainder of the state is occupied by the Coastal Plain.

Extending from the Gulf northward for about 150 miles ( 240 km ) is the outer belt of the Coastal Plain, also called the Timber Belt, whose soil is sandy and poor, but responds well to fertilization.

North of this is the inner lowland of the Coastal Plain, or the Black Prairie, which includes some and seventeen counties.

Hungary has three major geographic regions ( which are subdivided to seven smaller ones ): the Great Alföld, lying east of the Danube River ; the Transdanubia, a hilly region lying west of the Danube and extending to the Austrian foothills of the Alps ; and the North Hungarian Mountains, which is a mountainous and hilly country beyond the northern boundary of the Great Hungarian Plain.

* Western Galilee, also known the " Northern Coastal Plain ", stretches from north of Haifa up to Rosh HaNikra on the Israel-Lebanon border.

Leipzig lies at the confluence of the rivers Weisse Elster, Pleiße and Parthe, in the Leipzig Bay, on the most southerly part of the North German Plain, which is the part North European Plain in Germany.
