He also approaches the New X-Men in an attempt to help them figure out a non-violent way to help against the Purifiers, but is quickly rebuked by Surge, who questions where he was when they were getting attacked the first time, and that they didn't need to learn from him.

Professor X leaves after learning even he can no longer trust the others, yet appears to have severely restricted the number of people he informs of the forthcoming alien invasion, as the X-Men were not prepared for the Skrulls, at least at first.

A prominent feature about it was a device designed by Sinister that negated the powers of any mutant in the Savage Land save for Sinister's own forces, rendering the X-Men powerless while fighting him ( With the exception of Wolverine's claws as they were a ' bonus ' of the Weapon X process, although they would thus cause damage to his hands when used ) until the machinery was destroyed.

In 1991, the founding members were incorporated back into the regular X-Men series, and X-Factor relaunched as a U. S. government-sponsored team incorporating many secondary characters from the X-Men mythos.

During the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, Professor X and his son Legion are sensing the Phoenix Force was emergencing by transforming Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik into the Phoenix Five.

He joined a new team of X-Men, consisting of Angel, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Chamber, he was using his powers in a whole new way now, he was just channeling it and not turning his body into ice.

This has caused organizations to form to deal with the problem, who can be divided into three camps: those who seek peaceful coexistence between mutants and normal humans ( the X-Men and their affiliated groups ), those who seek to control or eliminate humans to give mutants safety or dominance ( Magneto and his followers, as well as other mutants such as Apocalypse ), and those who seek to regulate or eliminate mutants in favor of humans.

With the return of Xavier and the original X-Men to the team, the roster was split into two strike forces: Cyclops ' " Blue Team " ( chronicled in X-Men ) and Storm's " Gold Team " ( in Uncanny X-Men ).

Morrison also brought reformed ex-villainess Emma Frost into the primary X-Men team, and opened the doors of the school by having Xavier " out " himself to the public about being a mutant.

X-Men vol. 2 was renamed into X-Men: Legacy and will focus on Professor Xavier, Rogue and Gambit.

It has been said that the comic books and the X-Men animated series delved into the AIDS epidemic with a long-running plot line about the Legacy Virus, a seemingly incurable disease thought at first to attack only mutants ( similar to the AIDS virus which at first was spread through the gay community ).

Through a number of incidents, including Jean having Wolverine kill her a number of times, Jean trapping herself in a glacier, the Phoenix Force jumping into Emma Frost, and parts of the X-Men being trapped in a Shi ' Ar-generated event horizon, Jean Grey managed to assert herself and gain control of the Phoenix Force, with emotional support of all the X-Men.

Using the original X-Men as his agents to satisfy Lucifer's twisted sense of irony-and also due to his limited ability to create truly effective ionic constructs ; the duplicate Xavier was only his third construct shown and the other two lacked any kind of initiative-the duplicate Professor dispatched them to acquire three components from Quistalian outposts around the globe, intending to use them to alter the machine that had sent the Professor into the Nameless Dimension so that it could be used to allow Lucifer to return to Earth.

Marvel has also had many large crossover events which depicted an alternative universe, many springing from events in the X-Men books, such as Days of Future Past, the seminal Age Of Apocalypse, and 2006's House Of M. In addition the Squadron Supreme is a DC inspired Marvel Universe that has been used several times, often crossing over into the mainstream Universe in the Avengers comic.

The character joined the X-Men and appeared in almost every issue of Uncanny X-Men until the team was split into two strike forces in Uncanny X-Men # 281 ; Gambit joined the X-Men " Blue " Team and co-starred in the adjectiveless X-Men title for a number of years.

As the two search for Daken, Wolverine reveals that when he first joined the X-Men he attempted to assassinate Xavier due to some unknown programming.

With the other two original X-Men, Cyclops and Phoenix, Bobby has a little brother-big brother / sister relationship, with the latter being much more pleasant.

X-Factor teamed up with the X-Men to rescue Nathan, bridging the gap between the two teams.

The popularity of X-Factor continued to dwindle and Mystique and Sabretooth, two popular X-Men villains, failed to draw in more readers.

He was soon removed from the two flagship titles in early 2001 and created his own spin-off series, X-Treme X-Men, which debuted a few months after his departure.

Gambit has starred or co-starred in four mini-series-Gambit Volumes One ( released in 1993 ) and Two ( released in 1997 ), explored the character's mysterious past and his ties to the New Orleans Thieves ' Guild ; Wolverine / Gambit: Victims, which teamed the two popular X-Men on a mystery involving what appears to be a modern-day Jack the Ripper ; and Gambit and Bishop, which was advertised as a sequel to the character's first series and involves the two X-Men in Stryfe's return.

When the original five X-Men rejoined and the team was divided into two squads, Gambit became part of the Blue team under Cyclops ' leadership.

During the escape, he seemingly kills Lady Deathstrike, saving the lives of two of the X-Men who had freed him before.

In addition to the Wolverine series and appearances in the various X-Men series, two other storylines expand upon the character's past: " Weapon X ", by writer-artist Barry Windsor-Smith, serialized in Marvel Comics Presents # 72-84 ( 1991 ); and Origin, a six-issue limited series by co-writers Joe Quesada, Paul Jenkins, and Bill Jemas and artist Andy Kubert ( November 2001 – July 2002 ).

In a contradiction of early show continuity ( which seemed to say Xavier formed the X-Men not too long before " Night Of The Sentinels "), he also appears as one of the original X-Men in two flashbacks, with he and his teammates depicted as they were in the 1963 X-Men # 1 comic book.
