The reserve consists of three hectares of open water, wet grassland, alder carr ( wet woodland ) and scrub ; it has a floating visitor centre, a boardwalk and a bird observation hide.

From the boardwalk, one can see the broad with its adjoining fens and alder carr.

# Shrub swamps ; shrub-dominated freshwater marsh, shrub carr, alder thicket on inorganic soils

Other ecosystems on the island include salt marsh, reedbed, two freshwater lakes, alder carr, coniferous woodland, deciduous woodland and arboretum.

The reserve predominantly consists of internationally important lowland heath but also has a wide range of habitats including sand dune, peat bog, alder and willow carr, freshwater lagoons such as the " Little Sea ", and 5 km of sandy beach.

The Crowhill Valley SSSI between Grampound and St Stephen is an ancient woodland dominated by sessile oak on the slopes, and of willow and alder carr on the floodplain which has a rich ground flora.

Wet woodland ( alder and willow carr ), swamp and marsh habitat straddle the upper River Clyne with open marsh, fen, wet heath, with drier grassland and woodland on the slightly drier marginal area.

Beavers are herbivores, and prefer the wood of quaking aspen, cottonwood, willow, alder, birch, maple and cherry trees.

The best wood for the purpose is Pacific willow, but others such as alder or buckthorn can be used.

Taigas also have some small-leaved deciduous trees like birch, alder, willow, and poplar ; mostly in areas escaping the most extreme winter cold.

The rare elm, alder, sycamore, poplar, willow and hornbeam woods and heaths are covered now by several protected areas.

As with many Mediterranean regions, Abruzzo's vegetation is characterized by the presence of different Mediterranean ecosystems ; the coast and the surrounding areas are remarkable for the presence of typical Mediterranean plants such as myrtle, heather and mastic, but in hilly areas other typical Mediterranean species will also grow, including olive, pine, willow, oak, poplar, alder, arbutus, broom, acacia, capers, rosemary, hawthorn, licorice and almond trees, interspersed with oak trees.

* Purple Toothwort ( Lathraea clandestina ) grows on the roots of alder, poplar and willow.

Closer to the river the soil becomes heavier and wetter and vegetation includes alder, elder, marsh marigold and willow.

The nest is built in cattails, rushes, grasses, sedge, or in alder or willow bushes.

Stands on more fertile soils and in more favorable locations are occasionally dominated by Norway maple, black alder, grey alder, common aspen, English oak, grey willow, dark-leaved willow, tea-leaved willow, small-leaved lime or European white elm.

It is a bird of open woodlands with trees and ground cover for nesting, including most importantly birch, alder, and willow habitats.

High amounts of birch, alder and willow, with good lichen amounts, and water features ( e. g. streams ), fields with large amounts of bracken and mosses, and patches of low bramble ( for nest cover ) are preferred, but it will use a wide range of other species, including young or open coniferous forests.

Intensive economic activities changed the original forest landscape to agricultural land with small groves of aspen, birch, alder and willow.

The oriental plane is found naturally in riverine settings, together with such trees as alder, willow and poplar.

Trees include native varieties of oak, ash, lime, beech hornbeam, hazel, field maple, aspen, hawthorn, willow, alder, black poplar, holly, wild cherry, rowan and occasional stands of Scots pine, along with numerous shrubs and bushes.

Evergreen forests with spruce, fir, hemlock and pine with deciduous growth such as alder shrubs, willow shrubs, poplar, birch or maple trees are the habitat of choice for the small bird.

* Trees: such as pine ( Pinus ), birch ( Betula ), alder ( Alnus ), cedar, hazel, hornbeam ( Carpinus ), horse chestnut ( Aesculus ), willow ( Salix ), poplar, plane ( Platanus ), linden / lime ( Tilia ) and olive ( Olea ).

At this time the landscape was dominated by alder, hazel and willow scrub.

On its outskirts were low-lying areas ideal for the culture of alder and willow to provide charcoal — one of the three key gunpowder ingredients.

Hence, the alder is an outstanding pioneer species for reinstating forestland or abandoned farmland and other problematic soils that do not support vegetation easily.

In Ireland, in the Iron Age, the Corlea trackway is an ancient road built on a bog consisting of packed hazel, birch and alder planks placed lengthways across the track, and occasional cross timbers for support.

This bass sports a selected alder body finished in a Candy Apple Red nitrocellulose lacquer and incorporates design elements from several periods in the instrument's history, including 1960s-era lacquer finish, headstock logo, chrome bridge and pickup covers, 1970s-era thumb rest and bridge pickup positioning, modern-era high-mass bridge and Posiflex graphite neck support rods.

The inner bark of the alder, as well as red osier dogwood, or chokecherry, was also used by Native Americans in their smoking mixtures, known as kinnikinnick, to improve the taste of the bearberry leaf.

The Monument contains animals and plants such as black bears, pine martens, mule deer, coyotes, quaking aspen, black cottonwood, alder, and willows, as well as many wildflowers, such as cinquefoil and alpine shooting star.

The alder is capable of enduring clipping as well as marine climatic conditions.

The bark as well as the young shoots of the alder provides a yellow dye and if you add a tad of copper to it, they provide a yellowish-gray dye.

The bark also yields a type of ink as well as an orange-red colorant, while a green pigment is obtained from the catkins of the alder.

The fresh green wood yields a pinkish-beige dye, while a yellowish pigment is obtained from the alder bark as well as young branches.

The common alder makes a large Bonsai, a quick grower it responds well to pruning but branches can be a bit coarse and leaf size not reducing as well as the Italian Alder leaves do.

Near the trailhead at lower elevations, alder thickets are present, as well as incense cedar, red firs, and western white pine.

Alnus jorullensis ( Mexican alder ) is an evergreen or semi-evergreen alder, native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala as well as to the Andes of South America, growing at high altitudes in mountains there.

The economy was traditionally focused on forestry, including harvesting various species of coniferous trees such as black spruce, red spruce, white spruce, balsam fir, and juniper, as well as several hardwood species such as poplar, silver maple, paper birch, and speckled alder.

On the Northern Slopes, tree species recorded include hazel, blackthorn, alder, and hawthorn ; bird life includes robins, blackbirds, chiffchaffs, house sparrows, starlings, and thrushes ; wildflowers include cowslips, primroses, agrinomy, and knapweed ; and mammals include rabbits and foxes as well as pipistrelle and noctule bats.

The northern part of rayon is enriched with vegetation, among them hornbeam, alder, oak, chestnut, walnut, acacia trees, as well as raspberry, rose hip and mespilus.
