Another important centre for Spanish and Portuguese Jewish music was Livorno, where a rich cantorial tradition developed, incorporating both traditional Sephardic music from around the Mediterranean and composed art music: this was in turn disseminated to other centres.

D. Blackmore and José Maria de Eça de Queiroz, often considered the greatest Portuguese writer in the realist style.

In the Portuguese Republic, the proper style of the President of the Republic of Portugal is His Excelency ( Portuguese: Sua Excelência )).

Mozambiquan musicians Fani Pfumo and Alexander Jafete became prominent studio performers in the 1950s and into the next decade, making a style called Portuguese Shangaan.
