The Abitibi Canyon settlement was established in 1930 to support the construction of the dam.

* Save Strawberry Canyon, an organization working to preserve the watershed and woodlands of Strawberry Canyon from proposed construction by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Another conflict grew over the Club's position on the Diablo Canyon Power Plant planned for construction by Pacific Gas and Electric ( PG & E ) near San Luis Obispo, California.

The lake was named after Elwood Mead ( January 16, 1858 – January 26, 1936 ), who was the commissioner of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation from 1924 to 1936 during the planning and construction of the Boulder Canyon Project that created the dam and lake.

The next American space station project was Space Station Freedom, which was never completed, although it eventually led to the construction of the US Orbital Segment of the International Space Station, starting in 1998.

** A United States Navy team becomes the third group to reach the South Pole ( arriving by air ) and commences construction of the first permanent Amundsen – Scott South Pole Station.

This included large expansions at Yallourn and Hazelwood Power Stations and the construction of the massive Loy Yang Power Station in the 1970s and 1980s.

* The Gliwice Radio Tower of Radiostacja Gliwicka (" Radio Station Gliwice ") in Szobiszowice is the only remaining radio tower of wood construction in the world, and with a height of 118 meters, is perhaps the tallest remaining construction made out of wood in the world.

The construction of this signal box, completed in 1970, involved the demolition of almost half of the 1870s extension to Brunel's terminus and completely blocked rail access to the Old Station

In 1929, construction started on Battersea Power Station, being completed in 1939.

It has a similar monumental impressiveness to Gilbert Scott's other local buildings, Battersea Power Station and the Tate Modern, although its simplicity is partly the result of repeated budget cuts during its construction: much more detail, including carved Gothic stonework surrounding the windows, was originally planned.

Secondly, the construction of the London and South Western Railway from Waterloo Station to Putney and the Metropolitan District Railway to Putney Bridge allowed easy commuting.

Later, Scott went beyond copying mediaeval English gothic for his Victorian Gothic or Gothic Revival buildings, and began to introduce features from other styles and European countries as evidenced in his Midland red-brick construction, the Midland Grand Hotel at London's St Pancras Station, from which approach Scott believed a new style might emerge.

There was a small brickworks in the village which provided bricks for the construction of Liverpool Street Station among other sites before closing circa 1947.

In 1956 during the Cold War, construction of a White Alice Relay Station began bringing money, jobs, and communication capability to the area.

Meridian Main Street organized several projects to revitalize downtown, including the construction of a new Amtrak Station in 1997 based on the design of the historic train station used during Meridian's Golden Age ; it had been demolished.
