In Pequannock, the road is a six-lane divided highway with at-grade intersections, some controlled by jughandles, that heads through a mix of businesses and woodland.

At the southern end of the 33 / 130 multiplex, where Route 33 heads west, an old and narrow bridge used to carry the highway over the aforementioned railroad tracks.

The road enters Mansfield Township where it widens into a four-lane divided highway as it intersects a road that provides access to parallel County Route 545 to the east, which heads south to serve as an access road to McGuire Air Force Base.

However, the highway heads northward into the community of Allenhurst soon after.

It intersects CR 680 and CR 711 before widening into a divided highway prior to a junction where CR 712 heads northeast and CR 561 splits from Route 73 by heading north on Cedarbrook Road.

After CR 551 Spur heads east, US 130 makes a turn to the northeast, widening into a six-lane highway with many intersections controlled by jughandles and crossing Little Timber Creek into Gloucester City.

The road then heads east through Baldwin and Reed City before it becomes a freeway west of U. S. 127 near the junction with highway M-115.

After SC 9, it continues northward into North Carolina as a two-lane highway.

The highway continues to the west of an industrial and commercial park and continues northward, crossing the commercial district of North Brunswick.

The highway continues northward, intersecting with Middlesex County Route 680 ( How Lane ) at a traffic light a short distance later.

Construction of the new highway continued northward, with a portion of the highway still unconstructed by June 1930, a portion near the Adams train station and part of Livingston Avenue still was not constructed to full state standards.

The most common use of the highway is as a commuting route northward to Philadelphia.

Gulf County's highway transportation needs are met with three main corridors: U. S. However, after several setbacks, Route 92 was moved northward in 1988 and the bypass was truncated to a short portion of highway bypassing Hightstown.

At the town center, Route 2A meets the duplexed U. S. Route 5 and Massachusetts Route 10, which comes over the Deerfield River in the south before heading northward through town, with another interchange along the highway portion of Route 2.
