Den Helder () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland.

The municipality consists of the following villages and hamlets ( 2009 population figures with difference from 2007 figures ): Boerhaar ( 732, + 10 ), Boskamp ( 1091 ,-51 ), Den Nul ( 568, + 20 ), Duur ( 189, + 6 ), Eikelhof and Overwetering ( 295 ,-14 ), Elshof ( 473, + 26 ), Fortmond ( 104 ,-3 ), Hengforden ( 456, + 37 ), Herxen ( 320, + 4 ), Marle ( 76, + 2 ), Middel ( 213, +/- 0 ), Olst ( 5114, + 209 ), Welsum and Welsumerveld ( 605, + 2 ), Wesepe ( 1206, + 18 ) and Wijhe ( 6104 ,-3 ).

Ommen too was affected: the separate jurisdictions of Stad Ommen ( composed of the city of Ommen and the Ommerschans ) and Ambt Ommen ( which comprised most of the rest of the current municipality, Avereest and Den Ham as well ) were merged into one Mairie Ommen ( though Den Ham became a separate municipality ).

The municipality of Twenterand also had two city halls, because of the merger between the former municipalities of Vriezenveen and Den Ham in 2001.
