Despite a contract with MGM to distribute his cartoons, and the introduction of a new character named “ Flip the Frog ”, and later “ Willie Whopper ”, the Iwerks Studio was never a major commercial success and failed to rival either Disney or Fleischer Studios.

As a result, the Fleischers were removed from control of the studio and Paramount formed a new company, Famous Studios, as a successor to Fleischer Studios in mid-1942.

Max Fleischer went on to become Head of the Animation Division of the Jam Handy Organization, and Sam Buchwald, Isadore Sparber, Dan Gordon, and Max Fleischer's son-in-law Seymour Kneitel became the new heads of Famous Studios, which was moved back to New York by 1943.

In order to finance the new operation, Fleischer negotiated a loan with Paramount that in essence surrendered the studio's assets for the term of the loan, 10 years.

With the new contract with Paramount Pictures, and without the burden of Red Seal Pictures and Alfred Weiss, Max Fleischer was free to experiment with new, bold ideas.

The series began to take a new direction, however, with the arrival of Max and Dave's brother, Lou Fleischer, whose skills in music and mathematics made a great impact the studio.

New animators such as Grim Natwick, Shamus Culhane, and Rudy Zamora began entering the Fleischer Studio, with new ideas that pushed the Talkartoons into a league of their own.

On April 7, 2009, yet another release was made, this time a collection of all the cartoons released by Warner Home Video as the first authorized collection from the original masters, titled Max Fleischer's Superman: 1941-1942 with a suggested price at $ 26. 99 ; the set included one new special feature in the form of " The Man, The Myth, Superman " featurette, along with an old special feature seen in the Superman II 2006 DVD release entitled " First Flight: The Fleischer Superman Series ".

Ruben Fleischer has signed on to direct and executive produce the film for Warner Bros. Pictures and is looking at new screenwriters to execute his take.

Also in 1943, Famous began producing the formerly black-and-white Popeye cartoons in Technicolor, and began a new series of one-shot cartoons under the umbrella title Noveltoons ( similar in respects to the Color Classics series from Fleischer Studios, and also the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series from Warner Bros .).

That same year Famous resurrected an old Fleischer series, Screen Songs, introducing a new series of musical cartoons featuring a " bouncing ball " sing-along.

In that same year, The Fleischer brothers started their own studio, and in 1923, the clown who previously had no name came to be known as KO-KO when animation veteran Dick Huemer became the new Director of Animation production.

He found that though the excellent special effects and sets could distract from the scenery's scientific purpose in the story, the " old familiar music of science fiction " in lush new arrangements was a " true delight ", and the seriousness with which screenwriter Kleiner and director Fleischer treated the story made it more believable and fun.
