The Pathfinder's traditional Japanese competitor is the Toyota 4Runner.

Built on a ladder-type frame, the Pathfinder was Nissan's response to the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco, Jeep Cherokee, and non-American SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner, Isuzu Trooper, and the Mitsubishi Montero.

The platform has been used to support the Hilux light pickup truck, Hilux Surf SUV, Hiace Mini van, Land Cruiser Prado, and versions modified and renamed for the North American market: Toyota Tacoma ( known earlier simply as the Toyota pickup ), the Toyota 4Runner, the Toyota FJ Cruiser, and the Lexus GX 470.

Toyota Racing Development ( TRD ) introduced a supercharger for the 3. 4 liter engine in 1997 and it became available for the T100, the Tacoma and the 4Runner with the 3. 4 liter V6 ( and later the Tundra ).

The Toyota 4Runner is a mid-size SUV manufactured by Toyota and sold throughout the world from 1984 to the present.

The original 4Runner was a compact SUV and little more than a Toyota pickup truck with a fiberglass shell over the bed, but the model has since undergone significant independent development into a cross between a mid-size and a full-size SUV.

The Toyota pickup ( upon which the 4Runner was originally based ) underwent a major redesign in 1983 for the 1984 model year.

Thus, the first generation 4Runner is nearly mechanically identical to the Toyota pickup.

In 1986, all American-market Toyota pickup trucks ( and the 4Runner ) underwent a major design change as the suspension was changed from a solid front axle to an independent front suspension.

The difference is easily seen when comparing pickups and 4Runners of similar vintage: a 1984 4Runner looks remarkably similar to a 1984 Toyota pickup, whereas a 1990 4Runner shares only subtle styling details with the 1990 pickup.

It was commissioned as a smaller complement to the full-size Bronco as well as to offer a Ford alternative to the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, Jeep Cherokee ( XJ ), and Toyota 4Runner.

In May 2008, Toyota announced that its worldwide cumulative sales of the Prius had passed the 1 million mark, and exceeded 2 million units in September 2010.

However, Trulli's Toyota slowly began dropping back, getting passed again and again ; it would later turn out to be a blistered rear tyre, which would affect him for the remainder of the race.

The 128 was voted European Car of the Year for 1970, and continued to be acclaimed by the press throughout its lifetime: the magazine Road & Track placed the 128 above the Datsun B210, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 808, and Subaru DL but behind the Volkswagen Golf ( which was launched in 1974 some five years after the 128 ) and Honda Civic in a comparison test, praising it as a " driver's car " with " excellent " brakes and " outstanding handling ".

Hino Motors and Toyota have a plant and test track in the city.

In late 2009, Trulli was asked to test a NASCAR stock car in North America for Toyota.

A month later, Toyota confirmed that he would join the team as test driver for the 2007 season, as Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta were leaving the team.

In 2008, TDP driver Kamui Kobayashi replaced Nakajima at DAMS GP2 and became the Toyota Racing test driver.

But he stayed with the Toyota team, as the test driver.

McLaren, Williams, Toyota and BAR were at Barcelona and McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz broke the lap record there.

He is currently Red Bull Racing's test driver for the 2012 season and will be competing for Toyota Motorsport at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In 2002, he became test driver for the Toyota Formula One constructor.

He became the Toyota F1 team's ' third ' driver ( i. e., drove the team's test car on Fridays at Grands Prix ) for the last third of the 2004 season, after previous third driver Ricardo Zonta was called up to replace Cristiano da Matta.

Busch was scheduled to test drive a Toyota F1 car at the end of 2008 season, but could not make it in the end because of a commitment to the Nationwide Series banquet.

Chrysler Group created the world's largest indoor test track, and allowed attendees to ride along on a test-drive of their SUVs and trucks in extreme simulated conditions in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 ; Toyota configured a similar experiential ride course for the 2011 show.
