The Gold Coast is today known as a major tourist destination with its sunny subtropical climate, surfing beaches, canal and waterway systems, its high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland, making tourism one of its most significant industries.

Surfers Paradise is the Gold Coast's entertainment and tourism centre and the precinct's high-rise buildings are the best known feature of the city's skyline.

It is in the top 50 tallest buildings in the world when measured to its structural point, dwarfing the Gold Coast skyline with the closest buildings to Q1's height being the North Tower of Circle on Cavill and the under construction Soul building.

It is known for the contribution that its silhouette and its sign on the lake side of the building ( the Oak Street side ) make to the Gold Coast skyline.

It is open-ended with a backdrop of False Creek, the Coast Mountains and city skyline.
