In addition to the " Super Bowl Shuffle " rap song, the Bears ' success in the 1980s – and especially the personality of head coach Mike Ditka – inspired a recurring sketch on the American sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live, called " Bill Swerski's Superfans ".

In 1986, " Walk This Way ", a rap / rock collaboration by Run DMC and Aerosmith, became the first hip-hop song to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song " Boadicea ", also from this album, would later be sampled by The Fugees on their single " Ready or Not " ( 1996 ), causing a brief stir because the group neither sought permission from Enya nor gave her credit initially, and by Mario Winans, who did give her credit ( the Winans track, " I Don't Wanna Know " which features a rap by P. Diddy and is officially credited to all three artists, became Enya's highest charting single in the US, when it peaked at # 2 on the Hot 100 in 2004 ).

Marrow decided to adopt Schoolly D's style, and wrote the lyrics to his first gangsta rap song, " 6 in the Mornin '", in his Hollywood apartment, and created a minimal beat with a Roland TR-808.

He then devoted the third verse of the song to dissing Ice-T, mocking his rap ability (" take your rhymes around the corner to rap rehab "), his background (" before you rapped, you was a downtown car thief "), and his style (" a brother with a perm deserves to get burned ").

In 1984, Brown teamed with rap musician Afrika Bambaattaa on the song, " Unity ".

" The Breaks ", a single from his 1980 debut album, is the first certified gold record rap song.

Stylistically, rap occupies a gray area among speech, prose, poetry, and song.

Semi-spoken music has long been especially popular in British entertainment, and such examples as David Croft's theme to the 1970s ' sitcom Are You Being Served ?, the 1979 song Mickey as performed by Toni Basil in 1982, and the 1984 title song, " One Night in Bangkok " for the musical Chess have elements indistinguishable from modern rap.

The original intention was to just rap over a sample of the song, but Rubin and Jay insisted on doing a complete cover version.

Meanwhile, the players brought their characterizations to the national stage with the " Super Bowl Shuffle ", a rap song the Bears recorded during the season.

In 2007, the popular Puerto Rican Reggaeton – rap band Calle 13 mentioned the Sandinista movement in their song " Llegale a mi guarida ".

* Chip Hop ( rap ) artist MC Plus + refers to the Barber paradox in his song " Man Vs Machine " from the album Chip Hop.

Godfather of gangsta rap Eazy-E uses it extensively in his song Eazy Street.

** At the beginning of Ice Cube's music video for the song, " Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It ", from his 2007 album Raw Footage, a line of text states that " By the year 2020, no child will be left behind " which is followed by an Orwellian classroom setting designed as a segue into the song's sarcastic theme of blame-shifting and anti-gansta rap propaganda during the waning days of the presidency of George W. Bush.

Their 1991 song " Les tam-tam de l ' Afrique " was one of the first French rap hits to deal explicitly with slavery.

The rap song is in Spanish, with a heavy dose of lunfardo, some English words, and a few pop culture references ( among others, Don Johnson, Bon Scott, John Lennon and Yoko Ono are mentioned ).

When a book of his memoirs was published in 2004, it included an audio CD with the calls as well as a Chick Hearn Rap-Around rap song created with the samples.

* Rest Assured recorded a cover of the song in 1993 to coincide with the song's 60th birthday although somewhat different from the original due to the use of samples and a rap.

The following year The Fridge was yet again remembered in a rap song, this time by the obscure Los Angeles-based hip-hop group Hard Machine who released the single " Refrigerator ".

They came out with the very first rap track that featured rhymes in Swiss German, on the song " Murder by Dialect " ( 1991 ) featuring Black Tiger, featured on the second Fresh Stuff compilation.

* The Greek low-bap / rap band Active Member released a song entitled " Allios Skapste " criticizing Monsanto of its business practices.

*" Oh My Darling, Clementine " ( 1884 ) is an American western folk ballad believed to have been based on another song called Down by the River Liv'd a Maiden ( 1863 ).

In the later 19th century it took on the meaning of a slow form of popular love song and the term is now often used as synonymous with any love song, particularly the pop or rock power ballad.

For the late 19th century the music publishing industry found a market for what are often termed sentimental ballads, and these are the origin of the modern use of the term ballad to mean a slow love song.

By the Victorian era, ballad had come to mean any sentimental popular song, especially so-called " royalty ballads ", which publishers would pay popular singers to perform in Britain and the United States in " ballad concerts.

By the 1920s, composers of Tin Pan Alley and Broadway used ballad to signify a slow, sentimental tune or love song, often written in a fairly standardized form ( see below ).

Musicologist Daniel Party defines this kind of ballad as a love song in slow tempo, interpreted by a solist, usually acompaigned by an orchestra.

As new genres of music, such as ragtime, blues and jazz, began to emerge in the early 20th century the popularity of the genre faded, but the association with sentimentality led to the term ballad being used for a slow love song from the 1950s onwards.

The most common use of the term ballad in modern pop music is for an emotional love song.

When the word ballad appears in the title of a song, as for example in The Beatles's " The Ballad of John and Yoko " or Billy Joel's " The Ballad of Billy the Kid ", the folk-music sense is generally implied.

" Ballad of the Green Berets " is a patriotic song in the ballad style about the Green Berets, an elite special force in the U. S. Army.

Field researchers in traditional song ( see below ) have encountered countless versions of this ballad throughout the English-speaking world, and these versions often differ greatly from each other.

The song Far Away in Australia sung by the Irish ballad group The Wolfe Tones portrays the sorrow of two young Irish lovers who are separated when the male youth is forced to make his living far away in Australia, leaving his girl behind.

Among them was the ballad " The First Cut is the Deepest " ( originally a Cat Stevens song ), which became her biggest radio hit since " All I Wanna Do.

* " Southern Cross " ( folk song ), a Newfoundland folk ballad

The song is an evocative waltz-time ballad, with an extra beat in the fourth bar.

On the Indigo Girls album 1200 Curfews ( Disc 2 ) Amy Ray starts the song " Land of Cannaan " ( which originally was on their 1987 Strange Fire album ) by saying " When I first wrote this song it was a ballad, and then I heard The Replacements, and it wasn't any more.

Highlights of the album are a reggae version of the Beatles song " I Will ", a rendition of " Wake Nicodemus " featuring the Pipes and Drums of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, and a bar-room ballad, " Alan ", composed by Canadian singer / songwriter Tony Kosinec.

* September 27 – The Wreck of the Old 97 engine at Stillhouse Trestle near Danville, Virginia, which kills 11 people, inspires a ballad and song.

The song is in the folk tradition and may be thought by some to be a traditional ballad when song by others.

It was the ballad, " Lucky Man ", which was a song Lake wrote when he had his first guitar at the age of 12, that brought the band to prominence.

Like " Lucky Man ", the song was a distinctively mellow acoustic ballad broken by an extended Moog solo.
