The River and Rowing Museum, located in Mill Meadows, is the town's one museum.

The heart of the museum was the building that housed the town's theatre when Dalí was a child, and where one of the first public exhibitions of young Dalí's art was shown.

The old theater was bombed in the Spanish Civil War and remained in a state of ruin for decades until Dalí and the mayor of Figueres decided to rebuild it as a museum dedicated to the town's most famous son in 1960.

Currently, the Port Alexander Historical Society is undertaking the project of creating a small museum celebrating the town's history.

The town's two largest employers now are the United States Forest Service and Carbon County School District No. 2, both public sector employers.

The abbey's church was demolished and rebuilt in fashionable classical style in 1833, and now serves as the town's cathedral.

In 1675, when King Philip's War broke out, some of the town's Indians, ( especially in the southern part of the town ) sided with the Mohegans and the English while others sided with the Indians led by Philip, rallying to arms on what is now Curtis Island in present Holland, Massachusetts and Brimfield, Massachusetts.

Frank Bonifay, the man behind the town's name, bought a stake in the L & N, now CSX, Railroad.

The town's school children now attend South Central High School, which serves the entire south-eastern portion of Harrison County.

It is now believed to have been a flock of birds huddled together in confusion due to the town's newly installed electric street lights.

The town now has access points at Indiana 62 on the town's south side, Indiana 68 on the west side, and Spencer County Road 2050 North ( a new roadway ) on the north side.

Since the closure of Garretts, the town's economy has been dominated by the two nuclear power stations on the coast at Sizewell: the now decommissioned Magnox reactor of Sizewell A and the more modern Pressurised Water Reactor of Sizewell B.

Ft. Pownall was thus in Frankfort, and the town's major village was what is now Winterport.

This shop is now the town's Post Office.

The town's retail area has grown steadily since the 1960s, centering around the village of Smith Mills, but many of those stores have closed down now.
