In a celebration of mountains and the culture that surrounds them, and in recognition of the importance of climbing and walking tourism to the town, the Fort William Mountain Film Festival is held there each year.

* The Clark School was at one time located in Hanover but merged with Cardigan Mountain School in the nearby town of Canaan in 1953.

Set in the White Mountains, large portions of the town are within the White Mountain National Forest.

* 1850s-The largest town was Tunnel Hill, located above Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel.

Gaston County has fourteen incorporated towns: Belmont, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Cramerton, Dallas, Dellview ( smallest incorporated town in the U. S. with a population of 13 ), Gastonia, High Shoals, Lowell, McAdenville, Mount Holly, Ranlo, Spencer Mountain, and Stanley.

The highest point in Rockingham County is Nottingham Mountain, at, in the town of Deerfield.

The first elected trustees of the town were the slate of Denis Kearney's Workingman's Party, who were particularly favored in the working class area of the former Ocean View, now called " West Berkeley.

Agriculture by rice production brought in seasonal migrant laborers from Mexico and Latin America in the town, nearby Lake View and the Helena area.

There are currently two major casinos in the vicinity of Valley Center-Harrah's Rincon and Valley View ; both were opened in 2001-02, bringing traffic and jobs to what used to be an out-of-the-way agricultural town.

Many children attend other public and private institutions such as Woodside Priory School ( located within the town limits of Portola Valley ), Menlo-Atherton High School, Saint Francis High School ( Mountain View ), Menlo School, Sacred Heart Preparatory ( Atherton, California ), Junípero Serra High School, and Crystal Springs Uplands School.

Previously, children in the town had to travel to Mountain View for school.

At the 2010 census, the population of Oak View was 4, 066, down from 4, 199 at the 2000 census, making it the third largest town in the Ojai Valley.

The town of Oak View " sprang up " in the late 1940s and early 1950s as a bedroom community primarily, although not exclusively, for those who worked in the oil industry in nearby Ventura.

Besides nearby downtown Ojai, Oak View is the only other town in the Ojai Valley with a discernible " downtown ", which has developed along the Ventura Avenue / Highway 33 corridor, and includes a post office, a grocery store and a grocery mart, one bank, a Thai restaurant, a coffee house / restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a pizza parlor, two automobile repair shops, two tire shops, two self-serve gasoline stations, two coffee shops, a computer repair shop, an equipment rental yard, several hair stylists, a pet supplies store, a bar, a liquor store, a walk-in medical office, a real estate office, a car wash, a laundromat, a used car dealership, a tanning salon, a Sheriff's post, a video store, and other service and retail oriented businesses.

Although Oak View is located within the Ojai Valley, the town itself is located within the boundaries of the Ventura Unified School District.

There is one school in Oak View, Arnez Elementary ( aka, Sunset Elementary ), which is located on the south western portion of the town, at 400 Sunset.

Previously two schools served the town, however, Oak View Elementary School, located off of Santa Ana Boulevard, was closed by the district.
