Rexford was originally located on the Kootenai River, but with the damming of the river in the 1970s the original townsite was flooded and the town was moved to its current location approximately 10 miles west of Eureka on Montana Highway 37.

The townsite was selected for its location on the proposed route of the transcontinental railroad.

In the mid-19th century, the present-day townsite was the location of a distillery and flour mill known as Fountain Mills.

In 1907 the townsite was moved to its present location for improved proximity to rail service, and it was officially renamed Jayton later that same year.

With completion of the Wanapum Dam in the early 1960s, the townsite was relocated further up the hill above the rising water to the current location.

The railway siding at the location of the future townsite was established by Grand Trunk Pacific Railway in 1911 and originally named Fitzhugh after a Grand Trunk vice president ( along the Grand Trunk's " alphabet " line ).

The location would prove to be beneficial, as Gambell Street, which became Potter Road after leaving the townsite limits and dead-ended several miles south of town at a railroad section house, soon became the northern terminus of the Seward Highway.

The original location is subject to flooding, which led to its abandonment in the 1850s, and a new townsite was established on higher ground upstream.

In 1899, the residents sought to have a townsite surveyed, but by then the original location had become unsuitable, so a new site was chosen about three kilometres from the original lots.

The railway split just north of the townsite, at a location then known as Allimil, running northeast through Cookstown to Barrie and northwest through Alliston to Collingwood.

The location of the depot was a matter of controversy between the railroad and residents of Ely, who successfully sued the railroad to change the depot's name from Ely to East Ely to reflect its distance from the main townsite.

Plans for a ski development at this location were ended when evacuation was ordered, property owners and residents of the townsite were ordered by the provincial government to evacuate Garibaldi amid much public controversy as to whether it was really necessary or not.

The natives had to move to another townsite, the present location of the municipality.

On December 10, 1854, after helping to find a location for the new townsite of Topeka, he wrote a letter to his wife saying:

The townsite itself was originally known as " Swifts Creek Junction ", as it was at the road junction alongside Swifts Creek.

There are presently only two occupied dwellings at the old townsite.

The streets of the original townsite of Warren are laid out on a grid parallel and perpendicular to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

The townsite of Dorothy and St. Dorothy's Church as well as the Old Crossing Treaty State Park at Huot are the only non-agricultural features of the township.

Classic examples are found at the Banff townsite proper: Mount Rundle is a classic dip slope mountain, and the Spray and Sulphur river drainages flow parallel to the geological strike of the mountain range.

Elk, mule deer, and white-tailed deer are common in the valleys of the park, including around ( and sometimes in ) the Banff townsite, while moose tend to be more elusive, sticking primarily to wetland areas and near streams.

In addition to the main townsite of Huntsville, the communities of Allensville, Ashworth, Aspdin, Britannia Road, Canal, Centurion, Etwell, Grassmere, Hidden Valley, Ilfracombe, Lancelot, Martins, Melissa, Muskoka Lodge, Newholm, Norvern Shores, Parkersville, Port Sydney, Ravenscliffe, Stanleydale, Utterson, Vernon Shores, Williamsport and Yearley are located within the municipal boundaries.

The only commercial facilities available within the park are located at the Waterton Park townsite.

There are 7 campgrounds near the townsite.

The oldest continually operating dragstrip in Canada and the fastest high bank oval race track in Canada, are located near the townsite ; Cayuga International Speedway.

There are several buildings within the townsite that are icons in their own right.

Besides the townsite, which is known to include a hospital building, there are forested, mountainous and coastal areas.

Nevertheless, all maps of the Village seen in the series display little beyond the central townsite, indicating that the village is surrounded on three sides by mountains ( said mountains are seen by No. 6 in " Arrival ") and sea on the fourth, though the map does show a road leading off the map which may connect to the other areas, such as the Village hospital which is depicted as being in a field-like area away from the core Village ( at least in some episodes like " Arrival "; in others, such as " Chimes of Big Ben ", it is shown to be overlooking the central plaza of the Village ).

The site of the original Frank townsite is now an industrial park, and many of the historic buildings in the north subdivision are gone, including Gebo ’ s stately mansion and the Catholic Church blown down by wind in 1917.

But there are a few houses that are over a hundred years old, and you can still see pieces of century-old wood-stave water pipes in Gold Creek, part of the foundation of the zinc plant ( and the tunnel that connected it to its hilltop chimney ), and an antique fire hydrant in the old closed townsite.

There are six professional tennis courts located in the Park in the Wasagaming townsite.

The townsite was first located at Daan Lungsod which is just acroos the Adela River, north of the present Poblacion, Tuburan got its name from the prevalence of springs, which are the sources of potable water for household use of the early settlers.

Surrounding the town are several rural activities ( such as the growing of wheat, barley, canola, oaten hay and lupins, as well as the raising of sheep, cattle and pigs ) and a silica mine located 15 km north of the townsite.

The mine working along western edge of the island and the townsite at the northern end ( left of photo ) are visible.

The townsite is located at a section of the Vermilion Cliffs and a southeast stretch of the Moccasin Mountains.

The city was named for William Oakley, the proprietor of a 19th century stagecoach station located at a spring currently located about 2 miles west of the present townsite known as Oakley Meadows.

The golf course land located on LA. HWY 23, just south of the former Freeport property, was originally a neighborhood of the company townsite.

The townsite of Mandus is located within the township.

The first Merna Post Office was located about one-half mile north of the present townsite and was established on March 2, 1880.

In 1913, a few prospective businessmen located on the townsite of the future Watford City in anticipation of the arrival of the first Great Northern Railroad train.

Jay is atypical in Oklahoma history because the townsite and layout were located and platted specifically for its purpose as a county seat.

Sasakwa was originally located at a site 2 miles west of the present townsite, where settlement had a trading post.

Muldrow used his influence with the railroad to have a depot located at the townsite.

Seymour was founded by settlers from Oregon, who called the town Oregon City ; it was originally located where the Western Trail crossed the Brazos River, which flows just south of the townsite.

The original townsite, located on land owned by C. A. McMillen, was first called Old Decator, after McMillen's hometown, and later, Maxwell's Branch.

The original townsite was located on present day County Road 4023 two miles south of present day Texas State Highway 274.

The bridge was located approximately one mile southwest of the present townsite.

The actual midpoint centers on 97th St E. and Portland Avenue, almost a ½ mile nearer to Tacoma from the townsite plat where Midland school is located.

Patrick J. Quealy ( 1857 – 1930 ) founded Kemmerer as an " independent town " in 1897 when he was vice-president of the Kemmerer Coal Company, located south of the original townsite.

The name originates from Ganaraske, the Cayuga village first located at the current townsite.

Killarney is commonly associated with Killarney Provincial Park, which is a large wilderness park located to the east of the townsite which occupies much of the municipality's expanded boundary.
