Their debut 45 " You're Gonna Miss Me ", a national Billboard No. 55 hit in 1966, was featured on the 1972 compilation Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968, which is considered vital in the history of garage rock and the development of punk rock.

Their first project was a soundtrack for the flop horror film Slaughterhouse Rock, starring Toni Basil.

Their lyrics, by Roy Alfred ( who later co-wrote the 1955 hit "( The ) Rock and Roll Waltz "), were mildly sexually suggestive, and one teenager from Philadelphia said " That Hucklebuck was a very nasty dance ".

Their 1977 album, News of the World, contained two of rock's most recognisable anthems, " We Will Rock You " and " We Are the Champions ".

Their song " Indians " was featured in " Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock ".

Their debut single, " Body Rock ", was released on 31 January 2011.

Their first recording for the label, " Rock Around the Clock ", helped usher in the rock and roll era.

Their follow-up album Pyromania ( 1983 ), certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America having sold over 10 million copies in the US, reached number two on the Billboard 200, and the singles " Foolin '", " Photograph ", and " Rock of Ages ", helped by the emergence of MTV, reached the Top 40.

Their first single, " Rock Lobster ", recorded for DB Records in 1978, was an underground success, selling over 2, 000 copies in total that led to The B-52s performing at CBGB and Max's Kansas City in New York City.

Their album, " Concerto In True Minor-3 Rock Tenors " was released on iTunes and for download on Amazon on March 28, 2008 by Brainworx and Marinsound.

Their avant-garde debut EP, Rubbing the Impossible to Burst, was released in 1992, and in the same year they began working closely with Bikini Kill as riot grrrl's popularity peaked on both sides of the Atlantic, culminating in a split album on Catcall Records ( Huggy Bear ) and Kill Rock Stars ( Bikini Kill ) called Our Troubled Youth / Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, the names of the Huggy Bear and Bikini Kill sides, respectively.

Their controversial name ( translated as Fuckoffpolicecar ), statements and behaviour drew much public attention, making them a symbol of the Afrikaans Rock revival movement.

Their third album Rock ' n ' Roll Highschool came out in 2000 and consisted of electronic elements, which were a departure from the band's previous hardcore sound.

Their first actual multi-song concert billed as Jan and Dean took place in 1978 in New York City at The Palladium as part of the Murray the K Brooklyn Fox Reunion Show.
