The most well known version is that written by Gerald Gardner, and includes material paraphrased works by Aleister Crowley, primarily from Liber ALThe Book of the Law ( particularly from Ch 1, spoken by Nuit, the Star Goddess ), and from his Liber XV: the Gnostic Mass as well as Liber LXV ( Liber Cordis Cincti Serpente, or the Book of the Heart Girt with the Serpent ), thus linking modern Wicca irrevocably to the cosmology and revelations of Thelema.

Concepts of magic and ritual at the center of contemporary traditions, such as Wicca and Thelema, were inspired by the Golden Dawn.

The A ∴ A ∴ was created in 1907 by Aleister Crowley and also teaches magick and Thelema.

There are some that believe the Thelemic New Year falls on either 19, 20 or 21 March, depending on the vernal equinox, this is The Feast for the Equinox of the Gods which is held on the vernal equinox of each year to commemorate the founding of Thelema in 1904.

Neopagan movements emerged in Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries, influenced by the wider occult movement ; these included Thelema, Wicca and Adonism.

Interpretation of occultism and its concepts can be found in the belief structures of religions such as Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Theosophy, Wicca, Thelema, Satanism, and Neopaganism.

Thelema is a spiritual philosophy ( referred to by some as a religion ) that was developed by the early 20th century British writer and ceremonial magician, Aleister Crowley.

By his account, a possibly non-corporeal or " praeterhuman " being that called itself Aiwass contacted him and dictated a text known as The Book of the Law or Liber AL vel Legis, which outlined the principles of Thelema.

The word " Thelema " itself is the English transliteration of the Koine Greek noun: " will ", from the verb θέλω: to will, wish, purpose.

In the New Testament as well as the works of Plato, Thelema includes the ideas of will, choice, inclination, desire, including sexual desire, and pleasure.

As Crowley developed the religion he wrote widely on the topic, producing what are collectively termed the Holy Books of Thelema.

Liber AL vel Legis is the central sacred text of Thelema, written by Aleister Crowley, who claimed it was dictated to him by a discarnate entity named " Aiwass ".

This was in keeping with his religious adherence to Thelema, which holds to the ethical code of " Do what thou wilt.

It was around this time that Crowley decided to integrate Thelema into the O. T. O.

The Baphomet of Lévi was to become an important figure within the cosmology of Thelema, the mystical system established by Aleister Crowley in the early twentieth century.

The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage was to have a profound effect upon Crowley, the founder of Thelema.

As he developed the mystical system of Thelema, the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel was to become the fundamental task of every adept.

This was attached to the central concept of Thelema, True Will, which can be described as one's sacred destiny or path in life, which cannot be fully known in consciousness until the Holy Guardian Angel is contacted.

In Gargantua and Pantagruel ( 1532 – 52 ), François Rabelais wrote of the Abby of Thelema ( Greek word meaning " will " or " wish "), an imaginary utopia whose motto was " Do as Thou Will.

Grady Louis McMurtry ( October 18, 1918 – July 12, 1985 ) was a student of author and occultist Aleister Crowley and an adherent of Thelema.

Among them was Jack Parsons, who shared his enthusiasm for science fiction, and who introduced him to Thelema.

Anger was reportedly so upset he placed a curse on the authors ( Anger is a self proclaimed magician of the school of Thelema ).

This marked the first time an established church was to accept the Law of Thelema as its central doctrine.

Smith also created a set of irregularly-shaped Tarot cards, one of which was adapted for the color Ordo Templi Orientis degree certificates, and used with several others for the paperback Holy Books of Thelema which Smith designed.

It was privately performed while Crowley was at the Abbey of Thelema in Sicily, Italy, and its first public performance was March 19, 1933 by Wilfred T. Smith and Regina Kahl in Hollywood, California at the first Agape Lodge.

Published long after Crowley's death, a series entitled The Equinox, Volume V was released by Marcelo Motta and his organization, Thelema Publishing Co.
