Anne obtained a second post as governess to the children of the Reverend Edmund Robinson and his wife Lydia, at Thorp Green, a wealthy country house near York.

The rest of her time was spent with the Robinsons at Thorp Green.

The project never materialised and Anne chose to return to Thorp Green.

Anne returned to Thorp Green in January 1843 where she secured a position for Branwell.

Anne and Branwell taught at Thorp Green for the next three years.

While Anne gave no reason for leaving Thorp Green, it is thought she wanted to leave on becoming aware of the relationship between her brother and Mrs Robinson.

Anne became a governess and worked for Mrs Ingham, at Blake Hall, Mirfield from April to December 1839, then for Mrs Robinson at Thorp Green Hall, Little Ouseburn, near York, where she also obtained employment for her brother in an attempt to stabilise him ; an exercise which however, turned into a disaster.

However, Anne did stay with the Robinsons in Thorp Green where things went well, from May 1840 to June 1845.

In January 1843 Brontë took up another tutoring position in Thorp Green, appointed as the tutor to the Reverend Edmund Robinson's young son.
