Poznań's largest lake is Jezioro Kierskie ( Kiekrz Lake ) in the extreme north-west of the city ( within the city boundaries since 1987 ).

On the northern side there are several wide swampy estuaries where rivers enter the lake or swamps, going from north-west to north-east they are: Lupososhi Estuary ( 16 ), Luena Estuary ( 17 ), Lukuto Estuary ( 18 ), Chambeshi Estuary ( 19 ) ( and Luansenshi Estuary which feeds into it ).

The Katwe-Kikorongo and Bunyaruguru Volcanic Fields, with extensive cones and craters, lie either side of the Kazinga Channel on the north-west shore of the lake.

Belconnen is situated to the north-west of Canberra's city centre, and surrounds an artificially created, ornamental lake, Lake Ginninderra.
