Current editions of the standard works include a Bible dictionary, photographs, maps and gazetteer, topical guide, index, footnotes, cross references, excerpts from the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible ( JST ), and other study aids.

English-speaking Latter-day Saints typically own and study the LDS Church-published edition of the King James Version of the Bible, which includes LDS-oriented chapter headings, footnotes referencing books in the Standard Works, and select passages from the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible.

Translation as a rhetorical device is a form of parody, where a sarcastic paraphrase of a source quotation is given to mock its author ; to enhance the irony, it is furthermore stated that the version being given is merely a translation into the speaker's language, implying that the original speaker was unduly obscure or ranting.

The Literal Translation is unusual in that, as the name implies, it is a strictly literal translation of the original Hebrew and Greek texts.

As Nida himself wrote in the glossary of The Theory and Practice of Translation, dynamic equivalence is the " quality of a translation in which the message of the original text has been so transported into the receptor language that the response of the receptor is essentially like that of the original receptors.

Translation has given rise to a number of issues, as the original languages are often quite different in grammar as well as word meaning.
