After reforming, Cohen eventually introduced the Stone Poneys to the late Nick Venet ( also known as Nik Venet ) – also at the Troubadour – who signed the band to Capitol Records in the summer of 1966.

Moving to Los Angeles, they were soon opening for groups like The Doors and Buffalo Springfield and recording their eponymous debut album, full of lighthearted poppy soul that was quite contrary to what the group was performing in various clubs and theatres in California such as the Fillmore West and Troubadour, picked out by the label from a pool of songwriters including Jackson Browne and Jimmy Radcliffe who's song " Nothing But Tears " was the plug for their initial single.

The band was selling out and packing their usual rotation of The Roxy Theatre, Troubadour, and the Country Club in Reseda, California.

On June 10, they performed a sold out show at The Troubadour in California.

Under the direction of Ron Opeleski, the band launched their most successful tours since their inception including a full US headlining tour which sold out venues such as the Metro in Chicago, two nights at Slim's in San Francisco, and three nights at the Troubadour in L. A.

The Los Angeles singer / songwriter scene associated with The Troubadour nightclub and Laurel Canyon in the late 1960's to mid-1970's was supported by musicians Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar, Leland Sklar and Craig Doerge.

The new lineup began playing regularly at The Troubadour in Los Angeles in mid-1962, and their style of performance was similar to those by the 1930s big bands and the 1950s English traditional-jazz ensembles.

The recording of The Troubadour show was to be released as a live DVD, however, the band was not pleased with the footage or audio so nothing ever came of it.

Their concerts were riotous affairs including altercations with celebrities, such as one between singer Tom Waits and drummer Nicky Beat at The Troubadour.

Although Harvey opened for Helen Reddy-his Capitol labelmate-at the Troubadour in January 1972, Reddy made no apparent connection with any of Harvey's compositions at that time.

In 2010 Kortchmar joined the Troubadour Reunion Tour supporting Taylor and King along with Section bandmates Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel.
